Title: 2 Questions from a Tourney Today
Post by: browarod on April 20, 2013, 10:49:43 PM
1. Can Book of Jashar (copies the previous enhancement you played this battle), if copying an ITB enhancement, be played during special initiative?

2. Do Covenants/Curses retain their brigade(s) when played as an Artifact? If so, why?

1. I do not believe so

2. Also, I do not believe so, because Curses/Covenants now follow the dual alignment rules.  When activated as artifacts they are no longer counted as enhancements but just as and artifact and a covenant/curse.

But curses and covenants still have their brigades attached to them.  See Balaam's SA for that - he searches for brown or pale green curses.  The REG says nothing about them losing their brigade, only that they lose the enhancement or artifact identifier once they are played (depending on where they are played).

As for the first case, I would like it to be able to, but since the special ability (and not an identifier) is what initiates the copy and BoJ's SA doesn't have an interrupt, I don't believe it can interrupt.

Balaam's SA is searching for the curse in the dc like if I remember correctly. Activated on the artifact pile it can only be targeted as a curse or art

Artifacts don't have brigades. When a Covenant/Curse is played as an artifact, it loses it's enhancement status including numbers and brigade.

Agreeing with everyone's answers about the curses.

To add to the Book question, the reason you cannot do this is for the same reason that DoN does not work on Lampstand, because it is "Discard PERIOD Negate".  The first part of Book's ability has no interrupt/negate, and so the card cannot be played in this situation even though the copy would eventually do so.  In SI, the card you play must interrupt or negate the source of SI, so the abilities "Copy PERIOD ITB" would not work unfortunately.

Then I have seen this played wrong at top tables for years - I am used to Two Bears shuffling in Captured Ark.

I'm glad I can kill curses now without wasting my DoN.

You haven't been playing wrong for years.  Curses/Covenants following the dual-alignment rules is a fairly recent ruling.
