Goshen Promo - Was it ever updated?

Hey. I was wondering if the Goshen promo ever recieved an errata to make it usable again.

http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=17376.msg273680#msg273680

Theres the post where Byron said it was going to get a clarification to allow it to be used normally. However, the REG puts both copies under the same special ability:

Goshen
Type: Fortress • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Following Draw Phase place, remove or exchange up to three Heroes in this Site to protect them from harm or effect when they are not in the Field of Battle. • Play As: Place in your territory. This fortress may hold up to three of your Heroes. Cards in this site are protected from harm or effect. Cards can only be added or removed from Goshen during your Preparation phase. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Exodus 9:26 • Availability: Warriors booster packs (Common), C Deck (UL) and Promotional cards (2009 Local Tournament)

If the promo edition of Goshen did get a play as, could it please be listed separately, as it has a different ability from the original versions?

Sooooo..... anyone know if this card is worth using again, or is it still broken due to its own wording?

Since the promo card is listed among the other versions in the REG, I would rule that Goshen can add/remove characters as normal. The fact that the additional benefit for Genesis heroes is written on the promo version makes ruling that part fairly straight forward. I feel, as a host, that the REG really only needs to clarify what is not easily understood.

The thread I linked was when the problem came up. basically, it doesnt specify when you can put heroes in the fort or take them out. If you can simply do that with any fortress, then you can just pull heroes out of Chamber of Angels or The Name of the Lord. So, it had to be errata'd to specify when you can put the cards in it.

So "following draw phase" is interpreted to mean ANY time? If I were to rule on that without this knowledge I think it'd be pretty safe to say you do it right after your draw phase, starting your prep phase.

No.

The special ability says nothing about putting heroes in normally. It only says you can put exodus and genesis heroes in there if they're */0 or below. If one just assumes it works the same as the original goshen, allowing you to add or remove heroes at will without a special ability to do so, then there is nothing stopping me from pulling heroes out of The Name of the Lord at will either.

The card says it can hold characters, which can only be done in the prep phase (i.e. Judges Seat, High Priest's Palace). The problem was that there were no directions about taking them out. I think there was a general assumption from the writers of the card that Goshen would work the way it always had.

Yeah. However, this entire thread was based on this quote:

Truth be told, the older forts (Angel Wars and older) are really sloppy.  The new ones (the ones with identifiers) were supposed to be clearer.

Goshen was printed with Rock of Ages, so it should have been one of the clear ones.  Apparently, when we added the extra way to let the heroes enter, we should have clarified that they can enter the default way, too.  That was a good catch on your part.

So, Goshen DOES need errata/clarifiaction: You can put your heroes in Goshen during your prep phase.

But, It's not clear if the promo version ever got this errata. Its thrown in with the other two when it should be separate. Kingdoms of this World has two REG entries, why not Goshen?

I agree that there should be a separate entry. I was making a suggestion on how to rule it until the Elders make a definitive statement.

However, I'm not sure why saying that it can "hold" characters is not enough for the entry default of prep phase. Are there any fortresses that say "holds" where you are not allowed to put them in during prep phase, or where there would be a huge brouhaha (EmJayBee's word, not mine)?

If not, then a fortress that says "holds" should have a default entry during prep phase.

The removal of characters from a fortress is where there have to be clear directions on the card.

City of Refuge
The Name of the Lord
Obadiah's Caves
Chamber of Angels

These all look the same as goshen does at face value. They all say "holds  ____" and specify a way to put characters in them.

It makes more sense for cards like Judges Seat that say "holds ____" and specify nothing to put the character in or take them out. However, Goshen seems to be more in line with the four above. When I first read it, I thought it was like a super limited Potters Field:

Type: Fortress • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Set this site aside. Holder's Heroes to be discarded are instead placed in this Site. Treat them as discarded Heroes. • Play As: Set this fortress aside. Holder's Heroes to be discarded are placed here instead. • Identifiers: Holds any number of discarded Heroes • Verse: Matthew 27:7 • Availability: Kings booster packs (Uncommon)

That makes sense now. I read the ability you posted (thinking it WAS the promo) and didn't see a problem.  ;D

These all look the same as goshen does at face value. They all say "holds  ____" and specify a way to put characters in them.

But all of them specify when and how you can take them out. I am suggesting that characters can be put in during prep phase by default. Would there be any harm in allowing a player to put characters in any of the four fortresses you named during prep phase? It would be mostly detrimental because they are not protected, and in all those cases you will have either limited/conditional access to them, or they will return back into your deck. The one positive result would be that you could put poisoned/diseased characters (or ones with paced cards on them) into these fortresses and eventually get them back reset (in some cases).

Understand that the Goshen example still is missing the removal conditions, but I just wonder if a default entry during prep phase could become a standard for any fortress that says "holds."

NO. Placed cards stop working in set-aside, and making it even easier for TGT to shrug Destructive Sin via TNotL is NPE.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

I could use stalks of flax, then stuff the opponents heroes in City of Refuge to trap them there.

It would make Stalks of Flax more useful. However, many more decks will likely be using NT heroes after Disciples is released which will decrease Stalks of Flax' usefulness again.

Yeah RR your right only your Heroes have to be O.T.
He may have meant that the people using Disciples will probably not use this card, probably making it see a little less play. That much is true.
