Deb's Directive vs. Ruthless

I was playing my brother in law the other night.  He was attempting to rescue with a judge and used deb's directive to band characters into battle.  I'm sure all of you know the ability....at the end it states "CBN by an evil card."  I'm using egyptian to block.  I use ruthless.  STates: "Negate and discard the last good enhancement played in battle.  CBN if used by an egyptian."  does his deb's directive overpower my ruthless or can I still play to negate his negate?

The question isn't whether one comes first. CBN is unable to be negated ever. So DD can't be negated by Ruthless. Ruthless also cannot be negated, but DD isn't trying to Negate it so it doesn't matter.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Basically, here's how to think about it:

A CBN ability cannot be undone or prevented at all.  Now, since your Ruthless was CBN, no matter what your opponent did, its ability could not be undone or prevented.  However, their ability can't be undone by an evil card, which Ruthless is.  So while your negate can't be undone, it can't undo something that is CBN, since that card can't be undone.

Does that make sense?

EDIT: Pol got here first...was trying to find a good non-Redemption comparison, but nothing was coming to mind ;)

wow that's confusing.  So he played deb's directive first and it can't be undone by an evil card...so I'm thinking I couldn't have played Ruthless anyway since DD can't be negated by an evil card eventhough Ruthless CBN as well, correct?

You could have played Ruthless, it just wouldn't be able to negate Directive. Whether Ruthless is also CBN only matters if another card is trying to negate it, not if it's trying to negate another card.

Now that I understand I think it was pointless for me to play Ruthless because DD CBN by an evil card.  Eventhough Ruthless CBN if used by an Egyptian, it's still an evil card and useless against DD.  I'll know for next time.  My brother in law uses a Red/Gold Judges deck and loves to use DD.  I just wasn't thinking when I used Ruthless on it and argued that it negated DD.
