Delay to Reserve Access
« on: October 15, 2021, 07:23:47 PM »
Effective November 1, 2021 the following rule will be in effect for all constructed tournament categories.

Restrict all players from removing cards from any Reserve until the end of the 1st round of the game.

There are two main reasons for this change:

The Reserve is designed to be Redemption’s version of the “sideboard”. Instead it has become a mini-deck which makes it easier to set up your optimal strategy to start the game. Delaying access to the Reserve helps it function more like a “sideboard”.

Constructed formats have been dominated by hyper aggressive decks recently. Delaying access to the Reserve is one of many steps we’re taking to adjust that trend.

We’ve discussed dozens of ideas to address the hyper aggressive nature of constructed decks. There is not a “one size fits all” fix. Combined with rotation and the randomization of the first player, months of testing has shown us that this is a healthy next step that is less disruptive than many of our other options. Additional steps may be necessary as well. We will continue to evaluate the health of those formats.

Q&A:

Q: Can I still use look at my Reserve by game rule?

A: Yes

Q: Can I still look at my opponent’s Reserve with a special ability?

A: Yes

Q: What abilities are considered “removing” a card from a Reserve?

A: If an ability targets a card that started the game in the Reserve and moves it to another location it is considered “removing” it from the Reserve.

Q: Can I still use abilities to send a card to a Reserve?

A: Yes, sending a card to from another location to a Reserve does not remove a card from the Reserve.
