FBTN is broken.

Yeah, probably. But I think it might be fun to see if anyone can get creative.

I'm not sure how many games I'll get to play this week, but I'm in.

I'm up for it.  I like me some FBTN and playing without NJ.  Is it ok if contestants play in person (ie, at Nats), or must it be over RTS?

The only suggestion off the top of my head is to decide if players can decline a challenge by someone.

Why without Nj? The promo came out in the womens and it was a ultra in Warriors....

Oh, I forgot it was in Warriors itself.  The other thread made me think all promos were banned.

Like I said most promos are banned  ;)

Back in the day FBTN wasnt too hard to stop since all you had to do was stop your opponent from killing your Holy of Holies. Even though before C/D came out that was anouther story lol

Actualy it does  :P

For Promos can we just have it through Apostles promos? As some of the Promos after Apostles are pretty op'd for only having through warriors. Actualy can we just bump the sets up through apostles so that we dont have to worry about promo and set conflicts  ::)

FBTN is broken.
FbtN isn't as bad when HoH is available and DoN isn't available.
I'm in. But I think most decks will be fbtn/angels/black.
There are several other colors that were good in the olden days.

I have a first go at such a deck.  I can be on to play in an hour or so if anyone's around...

I'll be on for a while longer, sk.

Also, I'd like to say that Isildur and I had two rather enjoyable games. One of the highlights was a Warriors Towered PotW being used to stop a rescue attempt by King's Daughter at a site. Yes, PotW made it through 6 turns to gain the ability to negate character abilities (including that of The Strong Angel!) and managed to foil the rescue attempt.

Overall, I had fun (and some not-too-shabby draws, which led to my victory both times)

I played 2 very good games against Isildur as well.  I think they are two of the most epic T1 2P games I've played in years.

The first game was pretty awesome, and was very close the entire game.  It wasn't until his dominants put him up 4-2 and played AoCp, which I stopped with SoG+NJ, that I was able to walk in for my 5th soul.  (sk 5-4)

Second game was something that may cause Brandan nightmares for days to come.  I managed to set aside Claudia with Chastisment (promo), making her 11/11, then rescued, was blocked by his The False Prophet, and used Baptism to convert to blue.  Anyone else see the 19/23 banding combo?  Even when he tried to use False Prophesy, the big guy was able to win the battle to continue the band for me.  With only one turn left on a CotH + Gathering, the band proved too much for even his best numbers, so I was able to grab a soul pretty much every turn (minus the defensive SoG that gave him his only soul for the game).  On defense, I barely managed to stop his banding heroes after one particular battle I played 3 potential battle winners, which he managed to negate until it became a close numbers battle.  (sk 5-1)

We both plan to bring our decks to Nats, so I'm sure he'll give me the beating I deserve during another game with our decks.

One thing: Having any promo is insanely powerful.  Seeker?  Adonijah?  Captured Ark?  Haman?  Everlasting Beings?  St. Nick?  Windows?  Self?  All of these are very strong counters to many of the possibilities that pre-Apostles decks have.  After being on the receiving end of several of these cards, Isildur and I agreed that it would be a good idea to limit promos to either 2000 (1st printing of C/D, pre-AoCp) or 2002 (second printing, some powerful promos will slip through, such as ACiB, AoCp, MPA, WoW, Josh + Caleb, Brass Serpent).  I like 2000, as it is both a nice, simple, round number, as well as keeps the spirit of seemingly outdated cards from Warriors, Prophets, and Womens packs ruling the table.

I'd've liked to play you today, but didn't realize we weren't yet in a network together.  Since those all appear to be full, can you join my network?

I might be able to play tonight, it depends on how late I work.

Also, I agree that Promos should be limited to pre AoCP in order to truly have an 'Old School' deck. I currently don't use any promos in my deck.

Played another game vs Isildur, and this time he got the better of me, winning 5-4.

Another game vs Isildur.  I dropped the promos so that he stop teasing me about using so many, manking the game much more back-and-forth with epic battles (ie, Four Horns killing an entire combo, both of us trying the giants' banding, and some good, ol' fashion BTN).  Once we both decked out, though, my offense had been exhasted, so I was forced to play Wrath of Satan to clear the table, resulting in a 4-4 tie.  We both plan to bring our decks to Nats simply for awe value, as well as some beta games IRL.

Prof, any times that tend to work well for you?

Sorry, I've been really busy with work, and I've had a lot of catching up to do. I assume you'll be busy through this weekend (I heard there's some sort of thing in California) but I might be on tomorrow or Friday night (after 8ish CST) if you find yourself online. Otherwise, we can wait until next week.

I only got a chance to play a couple games, but I would say no promos should be allowed. Enough of the good modern day promos, and any decent strategy can be ruined.

Ok, I agree. It defeats the purpose.

Change #1 - No promos allowed.

"Redemption Old-School Ranking System" could be "Redemption Old-School Evaluation System" so that it makes ROSES :)
