Playing Online

Hey,

It has been a long time since I played online (2003 I think) but I am looking to get back into it.  I have installed RTS and Hamachi and should be able to play using those, although I still prefer just playing over AIM.  So, if you're looking for a new online opponent look me up.

I will look forward to playing with you Tim.  I'd also highly suggest that you join us in our monthly tourney.

Hmmm.......playing the great Tim Maly.......that's a bit overwhelming.  :)

Seriously, just read the 1st two posts of the thread to get the rules and rankings.  Then skip to the end and challenge somebody.  It's really that simple.

Just to reiterate what Prof said:  Pg 2-56 doesn't matter.  Page 1 for rules and rankings will give you the idea that you need.  If you have any questions, then let me know.  I would love to have you join our tourney.
I firmly believe that RTS is making players better, and therefore Nationals much more difficult to win.

Hey,

If the thread has 55 unnecessary pages, any chance we could get a mod to clean it up?  Maybe move some of those to a different thread if we want to keep them for archive's sake?

I"'m not a mod so I don't know.
Most of those pages are from challenges and reports of challenges.  Some are for rules and questions but mostly it revolves around challenges.
There are three "seasons" of tournaments worth of challenges, we are in in our third season.

Can we save them for just a bit longer?  I would like to get copies of all results reported.  If space is at a premium I can try to get to it this weekend.

Thanx.

2 suggestions:

1 - since you started the thread you can delete it without being a mod.  You could just create a new thread, copy and paste the rules, and then start up again with challenges there.  Then delete the old thread (after MJB finishes getting his stats).

2 - when you start the new thread you can put it in the "official tournaments" board, where I am a mod.  Then in the future, I can keep the number of posts in the thread from getting too high.

This isn't official though.  I think the better option would be to use this section, make one thread for rules and rankings, one thread for current challenges, and one thread for result posting.  Three threads.  Delete the challenges and results after each month is finished.

I think this would fit in Jacob's Ladder section since it is just taking its place anyway.  Justin would probably be able to help with moderation as well.

@ Mark:  Copy, Paste, and moving....sounds like work that I don't want to do.
@ Sean:  3 threads!?!  I don't think I want to keep those separate.  First, it would be too much hassle and work.  Second, people would inevitable post in the wrong thread or say useless things and I still couldn't edit it.  Personally, I am probably just going to leave the well-oiled and working machine alone.
Finally, as far as Jacob's ladder is concerned.  If/When Justin gets that running, my tourney will end.  That is why I called it a substitute: something to pass the time until Justin gets Jacob's ladder up and running.  I'm sure when he is ready to moderate a tournament then he will start Jacob's Ladder.

Hey,

Simply starting a new thread at the beginning of each season would be adequate.  I don't find it a matter of needing to delete the old posts, just not having them in the main thread and needing to wade through them to find information.

This isn't official though.
It is the current longest running online tournament in Redemption.  It has many top players participating in it.  It even has prizes.  Until and unless Jacob's Ladder ever restarts, I consider this tournament to be official, and since I'm moderating the "official tournament" section of the board, that should be enough to let it be there.

No problem.  Would it be OK if I did it for you?  I am really on a mission these days to keep threads from getting huge so that we don't have to keep having forum purges every couple years.

If you do, then I request that it keeps the same thread title.  Plus, I would encourage everyone to bookmark it so it's easier to find no matter where it is at.  Finally, I would like Schaef to "weigh in" with his opinion, so it's not needlessly moved around again.  If Schaef okays it as official then I'm cool with it.

*EDIT*  A thought just occurred to me:  if you move it then I can't modify and update anymore..correct?  Not saying I have to hold the reins, I just know it is a busy "job".

The officialness of the tourney has been questioned to the extent by Sean that I would also like to check first before moving it.  I'll get back to you on that.

And regardless of which part of the board it is on, you will be able to modify and update your posts.  So this won't be a problem assuming that I get confirmation that it's OK.
