Finding a game using a forum is such a bad way to find players! What we need is a real-time lobby that hides in your taskbar's notification area.
-
/me thinks for a second* There's an Idea! I'll make one myself! ;D Can't believe this hasn't be done before.

I like your style.

Hamachi?

Hamachi?
I was thinking of something a little more helpful for finding a game. For example, when you want to play, you can create a room in the lobby (meaning you'll host). When someone else wants to play, they'll join your room, and a toast popup will display alerting you that there is a game waiting.

Good idea. Something to stave off the masses as RTS2 lumbers along.

Aka Redemption Live? or are you talking about something different?
-
Great idea!
Just make sure that it is uber-easy to set up and use (like Hamachi), and
helps get around annoying firewalls and other network obstacles (like Hamachi), and
can have as many people logged into the same lobby at the same time as we want (NOT like Hamachi).
Lame 16 person Hamachi limit.

..And Linux
This wouldn't do anything since RTS is not compatible with either. Being able to find a game on a Mac is no use if you can't play it without using a PC.

oh, sorry, i misunderstood. I thought he was making an entirely new method of online play.... bummer
-
It would be nice to have something built into the forums. Maybe able able to have an icon by your name or special color to indicate you're ready and available for a game.

Ahem. You may want to check the accuracy of that. Ninja Duck has it running fine in Ubuntu.

Great idea. I hope Redemption Live has something like this...

I actually like this idea better than a separate program.
To avoid issues with having to constantly regulate chat, just make it a section like the Chess board. People could go into that section of the forums, and put up a game request in there, along with a note of any type. You could also take down the note when you find a game or stop looking, so you don't have a bunch of people that appear to want games, but aren't even at their computers. Finally, if possible, use the same system as the PMs on the board, where you see a number by the tab on top. That number would be the amount of people looking for games.

I just got an idea for helping people connect easier. Check it out here. (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=24869.msg392632#msg392632)
