Redemption Wiki - THE Online REG REBORN
« on: April 26, 2013, 01:59:58 PM »
So, everyone has been asking where to find cards, card images, rules, identifiers, have the ability to copy and paste, and be able to update quickly.

I am proud to present my project for the past month:

http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Redemption_Wiki

I will not take full credit for this website. Somekittens had started it back in 2010, then MJWolfe managed to add the majority of the cards with an awesome script. However, the REG 2.0 came out not long after that, and people sorta forgot about this website. I rediscovered it about a month ago, and decided to completely overhaul it while nobody was using it. It now contains the ENTIRE reg, every card to date with an image, the last rulebook (which is significantly out of date... I will add the new one when it comes out this year), card lists by brigade, type, set, and book, and the identifier lists the REG already had.

This wiki is not 100% finished, but I feel it is functional enough to finally "re-release" to the public. If you would like to help out, please see this page for what I would like help on and rules for editing: http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Editing_the_Wiki

If you would like to help, I will gladly let you. If you would prefer to just use the wiki, that is perfectly fine too, I will continue working on this regardless of how many people join in. The bulk of the work is done anyway.  :)

*EDIT* Also, while I still have some plans for bulk edits, you do not need to make large scale changes on your own. If everyone each fixes one little error when they see it, that works just fine. I made sure the core of the wiki functions, now we just need to make sure it's all 100% accurate.  :)

If you are not comfortable editing wikis, you can simply send me a PM on these forums and tell me any errors or missing information you find.

Having said all that, ENJOY!  ;D

This looks awesome! I am currently heading a project among the elders to update the Play As/Erratas for all cards, but it has more or less taken a backseat to other projects. When the updates are complete, I will likely recruit you to help integrate them into the Wiki. I will also add the link to the Wiki on the Rulings board. I do have a question though: do you have any say in what ads are shown? I didn't see anything objectionable, but I want to make sure that nothing like that will show up if it can be avoided.

Well done!

Unfortunately, I do not have direct control over the ads. I can however report "bad ads" as seen here: http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Bad_advertisements

I took only a quick look, but this update appears to be quite comprehensive and helpful! Probably more user-friendly than the online REG was, too.

If I had more time, I would love to help with the update project, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to devote much time.

One thing I noticed - and perhaps this could be an automated fix - is in a card's "Other Versions" section, they are linked to a page like "Rod of Iron (Warriors)" instead of "Rod of Iron (Wa)", only the latter of which is a page. Whether it's wiser to set up a ton of redirects or to fix a bunch of links isn't my call... I think I'd go for redirects, personally, but I could see the argument either way. Similarly, searching for something like "Birth Foretold" should probably redirect to the proper page ("Birth Foretold (Di)") while something like "Bow and Arrow" should go to a disambig page. I'm sure these are in the works, I just wanted to point it out.

What are your plans for the body text of a card's page? Trivia, errata, rules, articles, decks found in?

Will you have categories encompass ability types, too? So, could I easily find a list of all articles belonging to a "search" ability card? EDIT: It seems most pages have this, it's just the newer ones like Birth Foretold don't.

Looking excellent so far, and with a slight bit of further sprucing up (much of which you've identified), could push it juuust over the edge to be SUPREEEEME!

This is on my personal to-do list. It's just rather time consuming and not really critical for the wiki to function. I will handle this task myself.
*EDIT*
An explanation for this: When MJWolfe added the majority of the card pages, he did not use the REG format for set suffixes (Di), (Wa), Etc. I had to manually rename EVERY card page to the old REG system, but he already had a ton of links on each page. I just need to update those.

Play As / Errata are already included in the special ability section (example: http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Saul_(Ap)). Strategies and whatnot can be added outside of the infobox. Try to keep opinionated statements (This card is better than X) out.

This is in the Advanced Edits page of Editing the Wiki. I have added links within card pages back to the various ability pages (example: http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Ahimelek_the_Hittite_(RA2)). Once those are added on EVERY card, I can simply go to each ability page, see what links there, and create a comprehensive list of every card with X ability.

Disregard the double post:

Elders, if you would like advanced permissions on this wiki to edit things yourself, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

One other thing of note:

I intentionally left out the Limited versions of cards. 99% of them are the exact same as the Unlimited editions.

If you find any cards that ARE indeed different from the Unlimited variant, let me know and I'll add  them specifically. The only one I can think of right now is the Lost Souls card, and that's already in the wiki.

A thought for the Wiki... The well-made Dominion Wiki has a cool feature where mousing over a card link shows an image of it. (See for instance the page on Market.) That sort of functionality might make some pages more interesting or enlightening; for instance, the Reprints Page. Thoughts?

Woah, that's a cool feature.

I may look into something like that, granted I have no idea how hard it will be to add.

It looks like it's a custom template. It also requires the image file name to be exactly the card's title plus ".jpg". I'm not sure what more is required, or if there's a custom add-on you'd need.

EDIT: Looks like some custom CSS is required, since their Card template (in the form {{Card|Market}}) is:
<span class="card-popup">[[{{{1}}}|{{#if: {{{2|}}}|{{{2}}}|{{{1}}}}}]]<span>[[File:{{{1}}}.jpg|200px|link=]]</span></span>

And from a site CSS file:
span.card-popup {
    position: relative;
}
span.card-popup a + span, span.card-popup strong.selflink + span {
    left: 20px;
    position: absolute;
    top: 20px;
    visibility: hidden;
    z-index: -1;
}
span.card-popup a:hover + span {
    height: auto;
    visibility: visible;
    z-index: 1;
}

Yeah, it almost works better on phones than on the normal wiki layout. :rollin:

*edit*

Just looked at the front page on my Galaxy S3, you do have to scroll to the right on the Cards By ____ sections. The card pages themselves work really well on a phone though.

Regarding the upcoming Starter and Tin, I will add those myself once the full list of each is released. It's faster for me if I can format all the information at the same time.

On any other day I think this would be a pretty big topic of conversation. Today it's been overshadowed by all the new cards Rob has leaked. Lambo, well done. This is amazing. Thank you! :) :) :)

I noticed...  :'(

Could you possibly move this to Official Rules or Card Play so it doesn't keep being hidden by the new set thread? I want people to know this resource exists.

Maybe this is nitpicky, but the G/H starter decks (per Rob) are not 4th edition, so I think it's confusing (especially since there now is an actual 4th edition) to call them that on the Wiki.

Yeah, I just realized that today. That was a leftover thing from when the wiki was initially started in 2010

Also Mageducky, it's okay in this case, but when renaming pages, I try to avoid having a bunch of redirects everywhere. I don't think many other pages will need to be moved though.

So, I don't know if this is a coding issue or a glitch with the search function, but I just searched for "Scribe" and got 2 pages of results but none of them were the actual Scribe card, lol.

It pulled the word Scribe from the reference of a lot of other card pages. If you use the search bar on another page and wait a second, Scribe (Di) pops up.

No worries!

Also, don't feel bad pointing out issues. How can you improve if you don't know what needs fixing?  ;)
