Title: Tournament Prize Updates for 2015
Post by: CactusRob on December 03, 2014, 12:06:12 PM
I am making some changes to prizes for tournament for 2015.  Hopefully what you like in these changes will offset any negatives.  The main reason for these changes it to simplify things here.

1)  In addition to booster packs, hosts may now select card boxes (Early Church, TeP, or Disciples) as prizes for category winners.

2)  I am no longer making Redemption Cash.

3)  There is no longer a difference in prizes for open deck events and closed deck events.

See http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/downloads.php (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/downloads.php)

Sincerely,
Rob Anderson

P.S.  I am going to stop accepting booster pack barcodes in exchange for free booster packs. If you have been saving your barcodes, send them in now!  After December 31st they are of no value to Cactus.  Spread the word.

Thanks for letting us all know about these changes Rob.  I do think that the positives here far outweigh the negatives.

I think EVERYONE will appreciate being able to get the newest cards as prize packs now.  This is an awesome addition.

I don't think many people will miss Redemption Cash, and if it simplifies things for you at Cactus, then I think that's certainly worth it.

Having Open and Closed events have the same amount of prizes is also a good move in my opinion.  I know the old thought was that the Closed events were more random, but it seems to me that winning Booster is not much more random than winning T1-mp or T2-mp.  It also never made too much sense to me that the events that cost people the most to play had the least prize support.  So I think this is another great change.

I think a lot of people will be disappointed that the bar code trade-in program is ending.  But I think everyone realizes how amazingly generous it was to have that program ever exist, and to have kept going for so long.  I'm thankful for your generosity over the years, and completely understand if it's just not possible to keep that going these days.

So overall, I think these are great changes.  You continue to lead Redemption in a positive direction, and I hope it keeps going for a long time :)

Glad I check in every now and then.  :)

I'll send off what I have left of UPCs.  Thanks for the new changes...(now if I could just find a new group of youngsters out here.  ;) )

I am sad to hear that the Redemption Cash & UPCs are going away, but the fact that I get the same prizes for my two favorite categories and they can be the new sets makes up for it!  I know this will probably help on the financial part as well, so that makes still makes it a win all around!

I uploaded a revised tournament host application for 2016.  Persecuted Church packs are now a prize option.

There are new promo card choices:
- Local promo card (Lost Soul - Luke 5:15)
- District promo card (Eli the Priest)

There is also a new State promo card (Gideon's 300) and Regional promo card (Esau, the Hunter). If you host a State or Regional tournament these cards will be included with your tournament materials.

Finally, there will be a new National Promo card.  More on that later.
