The reserve

So I understand that the reserve has to be written down and has to have the same color sleeves as the main deck for tournament play. But my son came up with a pretty good/fast way of remembering what cards are in his reserve along with resetting the reserve after gameplay pretty fast. I just wanted to make sure that this was allowed. He put stickers on the inside of the sleeves where the card is seen this shouldn't affect the way the game plays I just wanted to make sure he's allowed to do this at Nationals?

As long as you can write on even cards themselves (I know signed cards and such are allowed) I see no reason you can't do the same to a sleeve. As long as the modification cannot be used to identify the card when it's face down and as long as it doesn't obscure identity of the card when face up, it should be legal. I might have to do something similar to my reserve as well.

If it's inside the sleeve and doesn't cause the card to stand out in any way from the other cards in the deck I think it sounds like a brilliant idea!

I agree with Gabe as long as it's on the inside that sounds kosher.

If it's on the outside of the sleeve or if you can feel the sticker through the sleeve someone could easily rig their deck doing pile shuffling.

I guess I need to rephrase this it's not on the physical inside of the sleeve that would be almost impossible unless I was willing to ruin a card. It's on the face down portion of the sleeve and the way the dragon sleeves curl over you can't see the sticker or feel it at all. Maybe you'll just have to see it in person to make a decision.

Pile shuffling isn't like standard poker shuffling. Pile shuffling allows you to feel both sides of the sleeve while shuffling since you're just separating all the cards into different piles. In any other TCG they would rule against having a sticker on the outside of the sleeve because of pile shuffling.

I can't see anything wrong though with having a small piece of paper or small sticker on the inside of a sleeve.

I understand where you're coming from but they're just on the reserve so there's only 10 cards that have them. Lots of things from the reserve don't even get Shuffle and I'm not sure that I know anyone that pile Shuffles in the middle of the game one card into their deck from the reserve if you know what I mean?

I just flip the cards upside down in their sleeve.

While you may not, some people do. We cannot allow it for one person without allowing it for everyone. Stickers on the outside of the sleeve are marked sleeves which we will ask to be changed for unmarked sleeves.

That's fine. On a side note doesn't a long shuffle take up to much time during gameplay? Wouldn't that be considered stalling?

No, it's definitely not stalling. For some young players it's the only way they can shuffle adequately.
