Title: Playgroup in the NW suburbs of Chicago?
Post by: Shaun on February 25, 2016, 06:41:40 PM
I'm not sure if this is in the right place, so please forgive me if I'm in error. This is a tricky discussion, but I think it's the right forum.

For those who don't know me, I'm Shaun. I've been a non believer for most of my adult life despite being raised in the church. Redemption is one thing that's always sort of helped me bridge gaps and sort of have the fellowship aspect I missed. I'm not sure what I believe at this point, but I do know it would be a lot of fun to have a playgroup in my area. I think there are a few players in the city, but I never get out that way. I'm hoping I can get a weekly or every other week group together for local games and open discussion. Not sure if anyone might be interested, but it never hurts to ask. Thanks for the time.

To clarify, kariusvega is recommending you download Lackey, a web-based program that lets you play Redemption online with players across the country.  This is definitely a good way to play games if you are having trouble getting in-person games set up.

As to your desire to have "open discussion" to coincide with Redemption, I think this is a great idea.  It would be best in person, but most things usually are  :)  I try and play a game on Lackey once a week (usually in the ROOT tournaments), but if you download Lackey, let me know what days/times work for you, and I'll make time to play you every week or two.  Lackey has a chat feature that allows as much conversation as you want, and I'd enjoy playing with someone who wants to talk about non-Redemption things during the game.

I lived in Des Plaines (for about a month until I moved to the north loop) and I know there's some guys like 45 minutes east of there, which isn't too unreasonable of a drive. I think they're technically in Chicago, but they're actually closer to Evanston than Chicago. Contact joeychips

That sounds like a great starting point. I haven't played the game in quite some time, but I'm sure I can get up to speed quickly. I appreciate the suggestion from both of you. I'll be in touch!

Thanks for the lead! I'll shoot him a message and see what we can come up with. It would be great to have a local group again.

Sorry, we just moved to Pasadena. But I know a few players still on the North Side of Chicago. Message me if you want their info.
