Sept/Oct ROOT
« on: September 06, 2012, 04:22:53 PM »

This will be the first ROOT tournament for the 2012-2013 Season. If you want to join, post here, and I will give you a matchup for next week.  Since there is a smaller group playing this month, we will only be going for 4 weeks.

The winning rule modification for this month is the "Anti-Deckout Rule" - if a player is decked out, then they may NOT make a rescue attempt (unless their opponent has also decked out).

Similar to last month, all posts made by Monday night/early Tuesday morning will be counted as official, unless it is contradicted by an opponent.

Week 4  (final) Matchups:
MKC vs. slug
theselfevident vs. RTSmaniac
Tarthan vs. Prof U
Red vs. bye (or next player to join)

Final Rankings:
     Player:                      VPs (Diff)
1.  MKC                             13 (+3)               * won head-to-head
2.  RTSmaniac                  13 (+8)
3.  theselfevident             10 (+6)
4.  Red                             10 (-1)
5.  slugfencer                   10 (-5)
6.  Prof Underwood          9 (-5)
7.  Tarthan                        6 (-4)
8.  New Raven BR             1 (-3)

In. I personally don't like these rules but to go with the lesser of three evils Anti-Deckout

Possibility to add a 4th option? Best 2 of 3 with 15 card sideboard?

That would get my vote, I probably wouldn't play otherwise. Though the switches would have to be on the honor system...

I would like to play but I would not play under any of those restrictions (except the sideboard).

I'm actually also interested in trying this at some point, but we've JUST started talking about this idea and there are a lot of details to work out (ie. how big of a sideboard to use).  I'm also a bit concerned whether people will be able to get in 3 games during the same week.  Back when ROOT required more games a week like that, there was a lot of ghosting.

I'd like to think about this a while longer before trying it in ROOT.  The 3 options that I tossed up there for this month are ones that have been around for a while.  I'm also interested in giving them a shot if they get the most votes.

There is a big difference between playing 3 separate games with 3 different people in a given week than playing best 2 of 3 against a single opponent. I mean, if your opponent comes for the first game, then it's not like they can avoid you for Game 2 or 3. -_-

Another interesting idea that I think I've posted somewhere was Type C(haracter) where only characters and Lost Souls were allowed. I may or may not be able to play but I will have to see what happens and if I can get RTS working.

I will vote for this one when the opportunity arises.

Quote
C) Type 3 rule - ONLY 60 card decks exactly, 6 LS to win, equal offense and defense, T1 deck limitations
only if 4 of a card are allowed, and no equal on good and evil.

We could also combine A and B. :)

Sign me up for ROOT and I will join my good friend Red in choosing option B.
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

I'll play. We gonna use hamachi?
I'll vote B, but I like the best 2/3 sideboard rule, too.

Though the switches would have to be on the honor system...

I was trying to think of the best way to implement this for RTS. One way to do it is build 3 decks...1 is your Game 1 deck, and the other 2 are your Game 1 deck + 15 card sideboard. When it's time for siding, open one of the other decks, take out 15 cards, and play. Repeat with the other deck if there is a Game 3. Or maybe it would just be easier to have 1 deck and edit it for Game 2 and 3 with your sideboard choices...

I was thinking the last one would be how it would be done, the issue is how to make sure only 15 cards are changed. It also might be possible to start off with a X+15 size deck (where X is your preferred deck size) then when the game starts, shuffle your hand, search your deck for the fifteen cards you don't want, take them into your hand, and set them aside face down (or remove them from the game). Then you can shuffle again and d8 to start the game. It'd be tedious, but it would make sure you're doing it fairly. The honor system would probably work just as well with the general population of the community, but in order to ensure fairness, that might be the way to do it.

This would probably be the most fair way to do it.  The other problem is that I still suspect that there will be a lot of times when people don't have enough time to play 3 games consecutively.  In those cases there will have to be an honor system that they are not changing more than 15 cards.

Also, I have another question about the best 2/3.  Do both players have to play the same deck for all 3 games (with the sideboard of other cards to switch), or can they switch entire decks for games 2 and 3 (since people check in multiple decks for a tournament)?

A sideboard would hopefully be the end of the Multiple Deck Madness we have now.

Sideboard would be pretty tricky in ROOT. It'd take too much time in between for editing decks, unless you somehow made people register the sideboard.

New Rankings and
 Match-Ups for
the Week 1 Posted!

Since there's only 3 games to get in this week, if we could all try to go ahead and play before THIS Sunday night (I know it's a short week) we could actually move a bit faster on this tournament.  If it's not possible, we can work with it, but please try to get in your first game as soon as possible :)

Mostly yes.

If both players agree to an alternate method of playing (ie. in person, over AoL chat, Skype, over the phone, underwater, etc.) then you may do that.  However, if either player is unwilling to play by one of these other methods, then Hamachi must be used.  If one of the players does NOT have Hamachi (despite it being free and extremely simple to use), then that player would have to forfeit in that case.

Hopefully someday, Redemption Connect will return, but until then, this is our best option.

Do not believe I will be able to get in my game this week. Just moved to a new house yesterday, and I will not be able to get internet until next week on Thursday.

That is unfortunate, but I guess we'll just have to go with the regular deadline of a week from Sun.  If everyone gets their games done early we'll try to speed things up though.
