"Budget deck" tournament

Anyone interested in doing "Budget decks" for the next RooT (or a separate tournament)?

The idea would be that you only get X amount of $ to spend on your deck (or decks) that you use for the tournament. $ values would be based on TLG prices.

If we do it for RooT, you would need to send your decklists to drrek otherwise I will organize and you can send them to me.

I would be willing to put up some prize support if we get enough people involved.

Post here if you're interested and what your suggestion for the $ amount would be. Personally I think something around $75 would be fun to try, or even $50 if we wanted to get really crazy...  :o

Could you use Deck Builders or single card values only?

I would be fine either way. If someone wanted to start with a Deck Builder deck and then use the leftover $ to add supplemental cards, I could see that working. However, I think it might be more fun to see the variety of decks that people come up without using a "template." I remember Ken doing a similar contest back in the day, but we did not do a tournament to see how the decks actually performed.  8)

Well, my schedule is looking too busy for me to do ROOT in January (since I will be out of town several weeks that month), so if someone wants to run a budget tournament as an official ROOT during that time that's fine with me, and I'll be back to run normal ROOT in February.

Wacky add-on rule: At the start of a game, each player reveals the total cost of their deck. For every $5 (rounded down) your deck is cheaper than your opponent's, you start with one free soul in your land of redemption.

Finally a format for buckler to shine in.
