Chris I could play you in a t1 and we could join and record tht score to prof if u wanted
This is a tough one.  The typical thing would be for the first person to join mid-week to play (in this case jbeers) the person with the bye (in this case Clift).  The typical thing would be for the 2nd person (in this case Chris) to have to wait until the following week.

However, this week my opponent dropped out, so that creates an opening for Chris to play me (which I could probably do tomorrow night after 10pm EST).  The only downside would be if Clift weren't able to play.  That would mean that the 2nd person joining would get points for playing me, but the 1st person to join would not get any points since they wouldn't have gotten in a game.

This makes me think that it would be better to just let the two of you play each other.  But the downside to that is that it sets a precedent that people can join late and simply play each other.  I don't think you guys planned this ahead of time, but realistically someone could plan ahead and use that as a way to choose their first round opponent.  I naturally don't want to set that precedent.

So I think that the most fair thing is to go back to the standard practice and have jbeers play Clift if they can get a game together, and have Chris wait until next week.  That way if any late people joining get points it would be the 1st person to do so.

I wish things could work out differently, but I hope you all understand that I'm trying to do the most fair thing.  Thankfully we'll all have games scheduled next week :)

I Pm'd Clift a couple days ago but didn't hear anything back from him as of yet. I had not officially joined I ha asked Clift if he would play me and let me join. I guess this gives Chris the 1st option to join prior to me.

Mark, I understand and I'll accept that if it's your final decision. I would like to point out there's not really any gain from people going into the tournament late to play each other. The only problem I could see is if two people joined with the intention of one of them winning and the loser dropping out immediately afterwards. Josiah and I are both competitive players (as I recall, we have a more-or-less even track record against each other), and as such, that's clearly not the case. I recognize that it starts to interfere with the randomness of the system on the first round, but the current system (allowing one person to join to replace a bye) does that anyway. It's not a big deal, I just don't see much of a downside to letting Josiah and I play. :)

The difference is that a person has no idea who will end up with the bye, so waiting to join late could end up matching you against the best player.

I completely agree with you that in this particular case it would work out really well.  You are both top players, and I'm sure would make for a very fair game, and I suspect that you'd both stick around for the whole tournament as well.  I'm not at all worried about this specific case.  I just don't want a precedent that allows for the possibility that you are correct to think of where 2 people join late with 1 person planning on throwing the game and dropping out.

I guess what I could say is that late joiners can play each other, but if either of them ghosts more than 1 game in the month that the points for that 1st round game would be nullified.  That would take care of that problem.  I think I actually like that better, so sure how about if jbeers and Chris go ahead and play this week on that condition.  Does that sound fair?

Thanks mark I appreciate that. I think we definitely operated here in the spirit of the law rather than the letter of the law.

I beat Drrek 5-1.

confirm.  Drawing 2 ECs in a deck that actually uses defense, and 0 speed cards will do that.

I won 5-2 against Prof Underwood. SoG/NJ, Mayhem, Falling Away, AotL (which I didnt play) and TGT online for 2 RA in first 5 or 6 turns. I got a good hand.
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!
