Special abilities that have to do with characters such as King Manasseh or starting a side battle - can those characters come directly from your hand or do they default to in play if they don’t specifically say from hand?

If I block with king Manasseh I can band to a demon from my hand or one that’s already in play. The same goes for any other character who can band to someone else.

Sorry, not the question I meant to ask. Can King Manasseh discard a human from hand and or territory in order to return a hero to owners hand? Alongside of this, can you begin a side battle using a character from your hand?

Abilities default to play, so KM can discard from battle or territory. Side battle characters should be able to come from hand since an ability that adds a character to battle can add from territory or hand.
