How is "refuse" being handled?
« on: August 05, 2019, 03:56:16 PM »

Hi there,

wondering how the keyword "Refuse" is working, e.g. in "Blocking Evil Character refuses to block"? Does this mean that character has to be retreated (I would think so)? And what if there is a banding chain of ECs? Can I choose on or will all have to return home?

Thanks for clarification - could not find anything in REG nor ORDIR.

Bye

It works as a withdraw. Since it says "character" and not "characters", it only affects one.

For a lot of old wording on cards like that, the ORCID on Land of Redemption can show you a "play as" that updates the wording. If you go into the excel sheet and search "refuse" you can actually see the two cards that use that wording, and look at the play-as that says "Withdraw an evil character. Opponent may present an evil character."

ANB is good. Change my mind.

As a follow-up to that question, does this mean that the blocker than present any evil character other than the original, even without banding it in?

Not if there's still an EC in battle.
Quote from: REG pg 59
A present effect allows a player to add a character to battle in which they control one side but have no characters on that side.

It's the same with Goliath - if one of the rescuing heroes is a giantslayer, they aren't withdrawn and you don't get to add another hero.
