the more advanced players in our playgroup would not like to have the layout printed on their playmat since we already know what the reg format looks like.
It's so boring without some sort of design. I would prefer a Redemption design.

That's not what he was saying. He wants a Redemption design, just not the slots that say "Draw Pile," for example.

Being a Graphic Design major, I'd be willing to help with the actual design of these mats.

One thing that would help is some specifics people would like to see:

What card layout?
What size?
Ideas about what you would like the design to look like? Do you want simple colors, or card art designs? (though, someone would have to help me by providing artwork we can use legally)
Etc... The more specific ideas people can suggest, the better I could help out.

Yes. I tend to use too much detail sometimes... Redemption design: yes.  Card layout: no.  Thanks YMT for catching that for me.  Wish I could be at SE Regionals tonight :/

i actually prefer the card layout on the maps even though i've been playing redemption forever...it makes the mat unique and its own. just make it faint so the artwork comes through.

Alright, question:

does anyone actually play like this?

I've gotten so used to the RTS layout, which I think makes more sense.

So, what layout do you guys prefer?

Rulebook. Do it for the RLK's.

I'm working on just rough layouts for the cards now. Not gonna bother making it look pretty until i get a layout or two that people like.

So, i'll probably be posting 2-3 samples of layouts soon to get some feedback on them.

The problem with the RTS layout is that it doesn't include deck and discard piles.

I basically play by the way the rulebook dictates, except I have my fortresses not in a pile (usually to the side of my territory) and sites in with the lost souls even when they aren't occupied.

There was a thread awhile ago that asked what people's layouts were. It might have been deleted though.

No...I believe it is still around, but we never came to a concensus. About three main layouts were used but they were as varied as the number of players themselves. It seems that no two people set up their field of play in the same way.

Same here, except for the fortress exception.

Well, if its possible to make one wider than 24"... here are two drafts:

fillertexttomakeiteasiertoseethetwomatsfillertexttomakeiteasiertoseethetwomatsfillertexttomakeiteas iertoseethetwomatsfillertexttomakeiteasiertoseethetwomatsfillertexttomakeiteasiertosee

these are about 36" wide by 13 high. I can fit it within 24" if i cut off the whole right half and shorten the remaining areas.

Thoughts? and remember, I'm just trying to nail down the layout of the cards, not the art yet.

The larger set aside area allows for Priests set-asides and Fishing Boat to be more clear.  Though I'd still use the left beings it's easier.  The problem is hiding the d/c pile behind the draw pile.

I like the second draft. the only change I would like on the second draft is to switch : Artifacts,Forts, and Sites on the other side of
the Heroes, Evil Characters, Land of Bondage.  Other than that,it looks great.
We will be going home to Jesus soon!

This is a lost cause unless you are willing to make X different layouts.

I agree. Almost everybody organizes their territory a little differently. The only way that everybody would keep their same setup is to make an online page where you can click/drag stuff into the right place and adjust it to the right size. Unfortunately, that would be very expensive (having to print a new design each time).
Not to say playmats couldn't work, but if everybody wants to keep the format that they/their playgroup uses, there will be too many different designs.
ANB is good. Change my mind.

FYI, we already have a couple people working together on the layout for the playmats. I am not sure if they will be made in time for Nationals, or not, but we will get a sample design on here when something is more concrete. :)

One of the other options I'm considering for distributing the playmats is giving one free with the purchase of a booster box (starting with Apostles). So you could pay $121.50 for 45 Apostles, Patriarchs, Kings, Angel Wars, or Priests packs OR $108 for 24 Thesaurus or Disciples packs and get a playmat free! Would this be a better option for anyone?

Sort of...It is intriguing to me, but I needed at least 3 mats.  So this route could get expensive for those who wanted multiple mats.

By the way, this would be one option; it wouldn't replace being able to buy them by themselves for a set price, in case that wasn't clear. :)

ah okay.  Thanks for making that clear.  I continue to support this pursuit because of the interest and excitement that my kids show for it (they still ask me if I have ordered their mats yet..

Ken, are you working by yourself / with Uthminister exclusively, or could I help out with the designs as well?
