Author Topic: Did FOOF and ROA coming in tins "mess up" trading for them for Type 2 decks?  (Read 1525 times)

I've been playing Type 1 for 2 years now, so I never really needed more than 1 of any card.  I bought all of the FOOF and ROA tins so that I would have one of each of those too.

But now that our playgroup wants to try Type 2, we have a problem getting multiples of the awesome cards from the tins.  The problem is that most players, like ourselves, only have one copy of these cards themselves, because they only bought any one tin one time.

Hence we have so many people now, like myself, scrambling around for Two Bears x 4, Philistine Armorbearer x 4, Uzzah x 4, etc, and virtually no takers because for someone to have 5 of those, they either bought a LOT of the same tin, or traded for those cards for their own type 2 decks.  My buddies Brederic and Hi123 have thousands of cards, maybe even more than me, but they only have one of each of those cards.  It was deemed way too expensive by all of us to get the same tin more than once.

I guess my overall conclusion here is that, for Type 2 trading purposes, I think the two "tin sets" were a bad idea.  I'm certainly not going to spend another $12 or so just to get the tin for one more card in there I want, and to accumulate 5 of certain FOOF or ROA cards could take weeks and multiple trades.

If instead they had just created booster packs with Random cards in them, then many people out there would have 4 of one they don't really want but be looking for another that I have multiples of, which is the "normal" way that collectable card games work.

Is anyone besides me frustrated with the effects that the tins have had on building up a Type 2 deck?  Thanks for listening :)

Yes it does create a problem. I think the best solution that has been provided is with TLG. You can buy individuals cards from RoA and FooF for 2.50 each or the pack from the tin for 7.50. But I am right there with you. I am glad the disciples is not a tin set.

This is actually something that was brought up back when FOOF first came out.  People including myself suggested that the tin system would inhibit the trading market, and it has definitely been more difficult for me to get copies of these cards for my playgroup.

However, as time has gone on, enough people have done Booster drafts that they are starting to get extras of these cards, and you are now seeing people selling them or trading them more often here on the boards.  I suspect that in the end, it'll all work out alright :)

P.S.  TLG is always an easy place to go when you really need a certain card right away.

Just to make a note regarding the prices on Three Lions Gaming for Faith of Our Fathers and Rock of Ages cards, they have been updated to reflect supply and demand. Most are now less than $2.50 each with a few up to $6 each. You can still get the set of 10 tin cards for $7.50, as well.

Who would ever pay $6 for a RoA/FoOF single when you'd get 9 other cards for $1.50?
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Whoever only wants that card, probably. There are only two priced at $6, and it's because essentially no other cards from those tins have been purchased. I would rather people buy the full set of 10 in that case, which is what I'm hoping to encourage. However, I'm willing to try to have one or two of the others sell for $1 each to make up the difference otherwise.

I'm guessing that the new Disciples set will change which cards are wanted and help balance that back out.

FooFster and RoAster draft helped me get loads of multiples for T2 decks. plus my play group is generous with sharing the wealth for larger tournaments.

I just went to the site and didn't see any for 6. I saw two souls for 5, though.

Rueben's Torn Clothes and Naaman's Chariots and Horses. Not exactly the two I expected.

Reuben's Torn Clothes is the $6 card.  Amazing.

And a "Tip" to Three Lions - Please post either the nickname or the special ability of those lost souls that you do not have photos of.  I myself saw those two lost souls for $5, but I have no idea which ones they are.

Thanks.

They are the following Lost Soul cards:

Jeremiah 11:8 ('can't be prevented')
Type: Lost Soul • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Unless a Covenant is in play, the first evil Enhancement you play each battle cannot be prevented by a good card. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Jeremiah 11:8 • Availability: Rock of Ages (Set 11)

Jeremiah 3:25 ('shame')
Type: Lost Soul • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: When you draw this card, you may set aside a Hero from each territory for two turns. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Jeremiah 3:25 • Availability: Rock of Ages (Set 15)

I just updated the prices and haven't had a chance to scan and upload all the images yet. I will get them up as soon as I can. In the meantime, the REG is great for that information. :)

Since our play group is all 13 and under, other than Brederic and myself, you can tell who the big spenders are :)  Yes, booster draft helps to some extent, except you cannot choose your starting tin, correct?  And in our tournament we don't pass the tin cards, only the cards from the packs.  At $12 to enter, I need to sit out of booster draft this month, but perhaps those that play will get some of the cards I am looking for.

I guess I just noticed the huge difference when I bought a bunch of Thesaurus packs.  I opened 3 Grapes of Wrath and 4 Mayhems.  With those cards, plus all the other cards I got, I could easily fill out the set or get other rare cards (i.e. Priests of Christ, Split Altar) that I didn't have yet.  Of course now, in hindsight, I wish I'd traded all those cards for extras of FOOF and ROA cards :)

Thanks for the advice.
