Health of Redemption

Good Morning All:

I received an order yesterday that was later canceled with the following comment: After talking with some others, I am noticing a very dramatic decline in the game.

I thought it might offer some encouragement.  Sales continue to be strong.  Sales in 2016 were up 35% over 2015 with tournament applications slightly lower.  Sales in both 2017 and 2018 exceeded 2016.  Also, more tournaments were hosted in 2017 and 2018 than in 2016 or 2015.  So far this year sales are almost double and tournament applications are slightly higher through April 16th compared to 2018.

There may be a trend that fewer people are attending tournaments in some locations.  But, that has been the case for the last 24 years.  Certainly areas get very active for a while and then decrease.  One indicator that I keep in mind are starter deck and gift set sales.  In many cases, those represent new players.  Sales of both of these items continue to be strong.

I am committed to keeping Redemption going unless things drastically change for the worse.  Based on the above that does not appear to be happening.  For all of this I continue to be grateful to God for His grace and provision in keeping Redemption going.  Thank you also to you the volunteers and fans.

This is great to know. :) We've taught 11 new players in 2019, and we hosted our first unofficial Arizona tournament last month. We'll be hosting another one next month, and then we plan to host official tournaments monthly moving forward. Owning a Christian bookstore now helps us promote it, and we have almost 20 people who are playing at this point. No one in Casa Grande had heard of Redemption a year ago, as far as we could tell. :)

Keep up the great work, Rob (and everyone else who helps to make the game great!)

Ken

"Arizona for Nats 2022!"

Just keep in mind that it's around 110 degrees and humid here during Nationals time. ;)

A decline in local playgroups does not mean a decline everywhere. There are many places where Redemption is active and growing.

A decline on the message boards does not mean a decline in Redemption. There is a large percentage of players who are unaware of the boards.

Redemption is on the rise!

What percentage would you (or anyone) estimate this to be?

Looking at my customer list versus the number of those that I am aware of on the boards, I would say 5% of my customers are aware of the boards. That is up recently due to the partnership between TLG and Land of Redemption which offers occasional mentions of the boards. The boards can be a double edged sword however. In times past these boards were a place we would rather players not visit. I believe now however, the boards have become a great place for players to visit.

Wow, I would have never guessed it was that low. When you say "aware" are you referring to having a board account? Obviously there's no way to know if certain people are aware of the boards but they only ever view as guests.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

That is an excellent point. It is an estimation based on having an account. My ability to discern that is heavily based on if they used the same e-mail address to start a board account as they did to make their purchase from TLG. If they visit as a guest, then my estimation could potentially be way off. So I might say that 5% is the low number and could potentially go up from there.

Wow, that is really encouraging! The player base is seemingly much larger than I imagined!
