Friends of Chandler Storm (CJStormtrooper) or future traders

I really hate to do this, but I am left with only one other option besides this (i.e. stalk through facebook): please encourage him to send the cards he owes or my money back.

Why am I not handling this through Paypal? Because I give most of the people I trade with favors (by marking personal) to avoid tedious charges for both sides...I cannot open a dispute there.  I will admit that this is my own fault, but I don't think I should be cheated out of $40.

What gets me is that the cards weren't even for me, but for my boys (7 & 8 year olds).

I am actively trying to get the cards for my boys so they don't feel the brunt of this and I may lose a Goliath, Lampstand, and potentially more money because I feel cheated.

To be clear, I gave Chandler $39 through Paypal 3 weeks ago and he has not been on the boards since August 1st and I have not received any cards.  How this affects future traders?  I will not mark personal for money or send anything first unless you are extremely reputable.  This is twice that I've been cheated (once here and once ebay).

I felt everyone should have a heads up.  When I receive the cards or money then I will delete this.

FTR, we should not be marking transactions as personal on PayPal when we are sending/receiving goods (i.e. cards). Doing so is circumventing PayPal's fee policy, which is unethical. I say this because I was originally doing the same, but when I read PayPal's policies more closely, I realized that this was inappropriate. If we are using PayPal to sell/buy items, then PayPal deserves to receive their fees for service.

'payment owed' isnt a personal transaction?

Thanks for the thought, YMT, and I agree with you.  That is why I admitted my mistake in doing it.  I had not looked closely at the policy until this happened.  It's a for sure hard lesson learned.

Actually, no. That is for non-goods payment (i.e. I fixed your car, so you owe me $100).

I had not looked closely at first either. Unfortunately that left you vulnerable, as you said. Of course, even if you had followed the normal means, you still may have been left out. I got ripped off here on the boards, too. I filed the PayPal dispute, and they ruled in my favor. But, because they had closed the account, I got nothing.

It's really sad that I can't safely buy cards on this forum.

Wow, I thought a dispute was a guaranteed win and I assumed that Paypal is a kind of an insurance.  The one I filed from ebay a while back was won and money returned.  That's tough and unfortunately makes me a bit more skeptical.

YMT won as well, but if the bank account connected the Paypal account in question has been closed, Paypal has no way to recover funds. It's actually a fairly easy way to commit fraud.

The guy that ripped me off (nvrsmkDK or something like that) never came back on the boards (unless he assumed a new screen name).

Tell me about it.   ;)

PayPal only let me down three times in over 1000 transactions (mostly as an eBay seller). Nonetheless, those three transactions stung, so I am indeed skeptical. That was one of the reasons I stopped selling on eBay.

Yeah, I remember that situation fairly vividly YMT, but when one member of lesser standing commits that offense, it prevents me from wanting to complete transactions with anyone I have not met in person*.

I agree with you, essentially. I will bend for trusted members that I talk to on the boards (i.e. you, Polarius, the Professors, etc.), since I have hardly met anyone in person having never been to a Nats.

Perhaps a list can be made of known and trustworthy traders and it can be edited at the discretion of one person, who would get feedback from other people on the forum about the person they traded with and the honesty/accuracy of the package they sent them?

paypal actually cannot authorize to pull funds from a bank account to recover funds in a bad transaction...they can cancel pending transactions, thats it.

They can also pull it out of the paypal account, provided it has not yet been transferred to a bank account. Even if it has the person just gets a negative balance which Paypal can then pay off with the bank account, but if the account is closed theres nothing they can do

Well paypal is dumb. Its supposed to be the "safe, quick, and easy way to pay" but things like this happen. Things like this make me want to kick a giraffe in the face or something.

It's more a safe, easy way to line Peter Thiel's pocket so he can build ocean locked libertarian villages on floating platforms to make the game Bioshock a reality.
