Michael for Michael

Hello, all.  First time poster here.

My son Michael celebrated his First Communion this past weekend.  My wife and I wanted to get him something "fun," but also something appropriate to the occasion.  So we bought him Redemption, a game I had my eye on since 1995 but never actually bought into.

The game has already been a big hit. :)

But now my Michael wants his own Michael card (preferably the warrior angel one, not the Angel Wars one).  I understand it's an "ultra rare" card though.

Are there any available and what would be your asking price for one?

Thanks in advance!
(If this is the wrong place to post this, let me know.)

Hi Christopher,

Welcome to the message boards! This is definitely the right place to post this. :) I run Three Lions Gaming, and we have all the individual cards (as well as booster packs, etc.) available for purchase. So the Michael from the Warriors expansion is $14.25, from Kings is $16.50, and from Angel Wars is $17.25. Shipping is $3 per order, no matter how big or small! We make sure to provide only the best quality cards with quick service.

You're likely to get other offers here, as well, so just make sure that it's clear what condition the card is that you're getting for the price you end up paying. That way everyone is happy!

God bless,
Ken Locklin

Welcome to the boards Christopher! I hope Michael has been enjoying the game so far. If you post where you are from, then we can also help you find playgroups in your area. As for where to get Michael, Ken is the best source as far as ensuring you can find the card you want. His cards are always in great shape and arrive quickly, and you know you can get exactly what you want. Other players here usually are able to sell cards cheaper, but not all cards may be available all the time, and "like new" condition isn't always assured as it is with Ken.

When you say "warrior angel one," are you referring to:

a.) the picture that looks like a warrior (which is the same picture from the Warriors and Kings expansions)
b.) the card from the Warriors expansion
c.) the warrior-class card from the Kings expansion

It is the one from the Warriors set, not the Angel Wars one.  I'm unaware of any others.

There are three versions of Michael:

1.) Angel Wars - gold border, modern rocketman look, warrior-class (the shield symbol under the icon box)
2.) Kings - gold border, old-style comic book angel holding shield, warrior-class
3.) Warriors - red border, old-style comic book angel holding shield, not warrior-class

That's what I said....  ;)

Also note, for deck-building purposes, that the Warriors version (first picture) is New Testament (which means he can rescue the NT-only Lost Soul), while the Kings version (middle picture) is Old Testament (Daniel reference specifically, which means he can be used with Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and Daniel).

I don't mean to inundate you with information, but if you are going to spend $10 or more on a card, make sure it is really the one you wanted.  ;D

Thanks to everyone for the help.  Since he found a few other things he wanted, we decided to go thru Three Lions.  I'm also trying very hard to resist starting my own collection because these cards are really cool!

I was a college senior when the game came out.  Now I'm a theologian teaching at the same college.  My biblical literacy is obviously quite improved and that makes the game much more entertaining for me!

Don't resist! There are lots of guys your age and older who enjoy the game. Some of the guys I know have had a lot of fun playing with their kids. What area are you from?

Thanks for not helping!   ;D

In the past, I gave hundreds of dollars to various CCGs and now I try to save my play money for board games.  But I might pick up some cards anyway...

(I am from Massachusetts, BTW.)

Where in Mass, I might be able to set you up with a playgroup. I'm from Northern CT and have a playgroup in MA in westfield and Lynnfield.

I would go with the King's Mike because he can be searched out with Wheel within a Wheel and can hold Angel's Sword, plus being a Daniel reference means he stops Nebby from searching.

I am from Worcester, MA.

We went with Warriors Michael for a couple reasons.  One, I won't deny, was because it was a couple bucks cheaper.  Two, my son liked the red background more than the gold (hey, what can I say; he's seven).  Three, even though Warriors Michael is not Warrior-Class, it seems like his special power is more comprehensive than Kings Michael.  Fourth, we also bought a single Kings booster, so who knows? We might get lucky.  :D

Welcome Christopher!

My younger brother, and his family are actually joining a church plant in Worcester, MA. The senior pastor and his wife will be heading up before the end of the month and my brother's family will be joining them within the next month. They will be starting Calvary Chapel Worcester.

I hope that you enjoy the game. My family has been playing almost since the inception of he game, when we were given some free booster packs. It's a great teaching tool as well as an awesome game to play. I'm getting ready to start teaching revelation to 3rd - 5th graders at my church and I'll be using primarily Redemption cards to outline the book.

God Bless!

Jeremy

I just want to point out that something you will probably learn is that as the game has evolved over the last 18 years, a lot of the language has changed; so while the Warriors Michael seems to say more, it actually does the same thing as the other versions. Don't worry though, if you like the look of the Warriors Michael, it's just fine. It's also more of a collector's item, since the Warriors is no longer available in packs.

If you and your son get into the game a bit more over the summer, I would recommend you check out the National tournament. It's only a few hours away on Long Island. There is a "beginner's league" for kids under 12, so it would be a great place for you and your son to learn, and get to know the community. You can get the information for it in this post.

Basically this is the only part you need:

Attention New Playgroups:

Just like the original Storehouse the main reason to acquire cards for other players is so that they can be given away.  The only difference is that I ask for you to cover the shipping cost.  But, because you are covering the cost, you can decide how many cards you want, and also what you want in your box.  I have three different options listed below.  Each option could also contain Dominant, Artifacts, Covenants, Curses, Fortresses, Sites & Lost Souls.  So let me know which one is best for your playgroup!

Shipping options:

Between 475 & 500 cards, you can pick 6 colors (3 good & 3 evil) that this deck will consist of:  $

Between 825 & 850 cards, this set will contain at least 20 cards from all 13 colors, it will also have some doubles:  $

Between 1150 & 1175 cards, this set will also contain at least 20 cards from all 13 colors, it will also have some triples:  $

I don't have the prices yet because I've not had a chance to take a full box of cards to the post office and get an estimate of the price.  Basically pick one of the 3 options that helps you most and you will get what is listed plus potentially some Dominants, Artifacts, Covenants, Curses, Fortresses, Sites & Lost Souls as well.  If you have any other questions just ask!

I would be interested in the second or third option.  If I'm going to get more of the people in my normal games group to play, I'd like some variety in game play.  When you have an idea of pricing, let me know, please.
