Hey guys, I recently upgraded my computer and no longer have room on my desk for a second monitor (plus I could use the money for some optional stuff IE fans, aftermarket cooler, gaming keyboard/mouse, SSD etc.) so I am selling one of my monitors. It's an HP 2009m 20 inch (1600x900 resolution) monitor with built in stereo speakers. I'm asking 100 dollars + shipping for the monitor, audio cable, vga cable and dvi cable. As you can see from the link above the monitors are being sold for 180 brand new, without a DVI cable so I think this is a fair deal. I am interested in cash first but might settle for redemption cards for the base price provided they are cards I have a good chance of being able to resell. Shipping cannot be paid with cards. If anyone is interested, or if you want me to get it out of the box and take some pictures, let me know.

I might have had it been a better resolution. I absolutely refuse to buy a monitor or laptop with a resolution lower than 1920 X 1080

Walmart sells a 23 inch, 1920 x 1080 resolution monitor new for about $150 including tax. It might be hard to get $100 plus shipping for your 20 inch. You would likely have better luck selling it on craigslist, where someone wouldn't have to pay shipping.

Yes they do but those monitors don't have built in speakers and don't come with a 20 dollar dvi cable.

You're still selling an inferior product for only 2/3 of the price. By the time shipping is thrown in, the dvi cable won't matter as much, and most built-in speaker systems on monitors tend to be low-to-medium quality.

And tax on 150 dollars is 13 dollars. Probably about as much as shipping would cost and no dvo cable no speakers. 163 dollars for 23 inch monitor. 113 for 20 inch monitor dvi cable and built in speakers. By the time you buy speakers and a dvi cable yours looking at 190 bucks. I'm not stupid I'm aware of what's available at Walmart, my other monitor is the exact model that were talking about. Having experience with both the Walmart product is not worth an extra 63 dollars before buying speakers and a dvi cable.

That's all well and good, but you're still overcharging. I wish you the best in luck in selling it (it's a pain trying to sell slightly older monitors these days).

What evidence do you have I'm overcharging? The monitor itself is half the price of the same model new the dvi cable is 2/3rds the price that it was brand new. Add those together and you get right around 100 I made it a round number for simplicity plus shipping.

Evidence would be that that same model isn't selling on ebay for that much. In fact, the only activity is one that has a bid for $40 with only $15 shipping. IMHO, speakers in a monitor are a waste. They don't belong there, and add absolutely NO value to a monitor. Also, your monitor is 3 years old. That alone makes it worth half or less of it's original price. But you can value it the way you see fit. Just warning that you'll have a hard time finding someone who values it the same

On a side note, I just found a nice 22" 1080p going for $30 + free shipping. I'm going to be watching that one! Don't you have a monitor with a higher resolution than that? I'm trying to find one, but can't.

Yeah a bid right now on now on eBay doesn't mean that's what it will end up selling fr and our standards are a bit higher than most peoples Sean just because you and I don't like built in speakers doesn't mean no one does.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to hit completed listings on Ebay.

How can you call a service that has the same item in the same condition selling for a 60 dollar price difference an expert? the only thing ebay is an expert at proving is that demand fluctuates.

Hmm, I wonder what demand has authority over? Oh, thats right, secondary market values.

and it fluctuates. Im not going to set the price of something I'm selling based on the fact that some guy outbid one other guy 6 months ago and won the monitor for 30 bucks. Walk in to best buy tomorrow and tell them to sell you a $900 dollar computer for $300 because you are the only one demanding it at that moment and they will laugh in your face and tell you to get the heck out of your store, and thats what I am doing now. I set the price based on the market value that the monitor was going for at second hand retailers, not auctions. If i wanted to sell it auction style I would have. Ebay is the authority on what things are worth in online auctions, nothing else.

Common sense tells you the item is worth the price people are paying in this relative price period now, not 6 months ago. I'll tell you next time I need oranges instead of apples, though.

And I just sold it for $90 (i knocked ten off because he's a friend) so i guess that means, relative to this time period, that's what it was worth.

Used ones have sold between 80 and 90 in the past 2 weeks on Ebay, so sure, that was a fair price.

and when you consider that those used ones did not come with a 20 dollar DVI cable that I've had for only a few weeks and was used only once to make sure it worked, 100 dollars is a fair price is it not?

Of course it is. I'm just saying lets not be so easy to discount the #1 most viewed auction website in the world when it comes to secondary market values. Why would anyone pay anymore/less for an item anywhere else when millions of consumers are showing exactly what any given item is worth now?
