There is a reason he is called King Amazing...

CTB will always be the second-best ability (best being side-battles).
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

And Amaziah gets around Writ/Charms/GiC. He can use TToD, and Valley of Salt is CBN on him.

Here's how I made my decision.

King Amaziah's nick-name = King Amazing (which is inherently amazing)

John's nick-name = John (inherently boring because it's the same as his name!)

Ergo King Amazing wins because he's, well, Amazing.

Hmm, figured ignore would rank up there somewhere...

Ignore isn't a great ability in and of itself. Being able to use it pre-block makes it great, but that's circumstantial. CTB and side-battles are great whether or not the opponent has already blocked/attacked. Furthermore, CTB is extremely useful for both offense and defense (as are side-battles) while Ignore is terrible for Defense.

Well we're talking about offensive cards here, so ignore on defense is moot. Ignore is better because it gives them less possible options than CTB does. I also dont need another card to make ignore actually be good.

You may have been talking about offensive cards, but I was talking about abilities.

Regardless, Persians and N.T. defenses can shrug off Ignore all day, as well as any defense using Hating the Light, Large Tree or Defiant for some reason. The only recourse to CTB is KotW+WoP (leaving you wide open to Goliath) or to be playing the brigade chosen.

We're talking about comparing two offensive cards abilities. Why else would we need to talk about how they compare defensively? CTB also blows chunks on defense. This is nothing new.

Hmm, I wonder which is more playable and more likely to be seen: Gallows/Hating the Light/Large Tree/Defiant/NT defenses vs Kotw/WoP/playing the brigade chosen... ::)

Considering the sheer versitility Amaziah I'm actually very surprised the voting is this close. I feel like the wide spread popularity of Disciples is swaying the vote.

Any ability that can only be used once and needs set-up will always be 2nd best to a negate EC, N.T., TGT prophet, imo. Granted, Amazing is almost a guaranteed soul every time, but John can win souls all day.

Agreed. John roflstomps the meta all day. TGT puts him over the top.

Originally I was persuaded to vote for Amaziah, but then I remembered I'm a T2 player first and foremost.

T2 John >> T2 King Amazing.

Only the CTB is once per game, the capture replace is always good. How does John stop Goliath, KoT, Writ, Charms, or Gomer? All in the "meta"????

He prevents KoT, but I have no idea about the rest of it.

I still maintain that King Amazing is the better character.  His ability is essentially an auto win.  He also has valley of Salt, and TToD to work with for support.  So my vote is still for Amazing.

I don't see King Amaziah as an auto-win.  He requires at least one other card, meaning an EC that you want to block him with.  This means: 1) If you draw King Amaziah but no EC, you can't do it., 2) You lose one of your ECs to make it work, 3) If that EC was only in your deck for KA, then that EC is worthless in your hand until you draw KA, 4) KA is vulnerable to Grapes of Wrath being played on your EC (unless you plan to AOTL your own EC), 5) You need to hope your opponent does not have EEs in the color of whomever you pre-block with.  He is especially vulnerable to the suicide defense that does use these little 1/1 guys and their EEs, and he's also vulnerable to losing an artifact to Lying Unto God (assuming anyone uses this awesome card anymore).  6) And of course, even if you do pull off the once per game condition, your opponent can Bury the LS you were going for, play SOG and/or NJ on it, or Martyr King Amaziah.  Granted, they can do this with John too, but when John comes out into battle later on his ability still works.  Not so with Amaziah.

John on the other hand, plus Garden Tomb (which I readily admit I can't stand), has many times that he cannot be blocked at all, and he laughs at the "all-powerful" Uzzah.

John shouldn't even be close to Amaziah. John is NT, uses Garden Tomb, negates most ECs, has access to the best enhancement in the game, has a banding partner if needed, and has access to Herod's Temple.

This isn't even a contest.

John.  Absolutely.  I'm a Di player, so I'm a bit biased, but he's pretty darn nasty.
