Title: Round 2 - Purple - King Amaziah or Philip
Post by: Bryon on March 11, 2012, 07:09:44 PM
Which is the better Redemption hero?

King Amaziah [RoA2]
Philip [Disciples]

Phil is winning this? I like Phil too, but this is King Amazing that he's up against!

Phil has CBN band but Amazing is an auto win.

I went with Amazing. Phil with probably win though.

Protection from capture (with Bart) as well as high numbers to beat Gomer+KoT is the best part asset of Phil.

Yeah I see that too but Amazing's ability is a little more for certain.

Well, unless your opponent uses Brown (or Black, if you want to go old school on Jehoash) and plays an interrupt/negate on Ahimelek to stop the return if you don't have David out.  To recap: You must have Amazing, David, and Ahimelek out with Jehoash in hand or territory (4 cards) to get an auto-rescue once per game.  OR you could use Phillip to search out his big CBN banding buddy.  4 card vs 1, 1 rescue vs as many rescues (with capture protection) as you want.

If they are using black in this meta I won't even need to use King Amazing's ability to win.

If I using black then I don't have to worry about, brown being dropped, so in that case it's all good.

Additionally there's valley of salt to consider for back-up as well as TToD.

The point is he's very much not a certain insta-win. If you're not using him with Ahimelek and Jehoash, you're vulnerable to multiple black and brown enhancements, Unholy Writ, Charms, Grapes, and CM. If you are using him with those, then he generates a soul, but it's a hard combo to set up (four cards is nothing to scoff at) and it's still vulnerable to CM. Phil/Bart on the other hand, can single-handedly win games between Bart's capture protection and Herod's Temple. Searching for Bart and having a CBN band is crazy, and puts Philip way ahead to me.

They are both VERY likely to win a LS.  But only Amazing can create one to rescue :)

The once per game limitation is really what I think hurts Amazing in this. He is an almost guaranteed lost soul but only once, and if your opponent counters it then he was completely useless now. Phil on the other hand is 1/2 of one of the best banding chains in the game, grabs the other half of the chain just in case you don't have it, has some great protect abilities and all of that is CBN. Winning.

King Amazing is very hard to stop, but in the end he is one, long set up rescue, where Phil sets himself up and is hard to stop as well (though not quite as hard), so Philip gets my vote.

A couple of random things about Amaziah I'd like to point out (since no one else has), is that if your opponent has one, they can just capture their own instead of yours and stop you from adding a new hero to battle, and that also the hero you really should be adding to battle off him is not Ahimelek, but rather someone who bands to ahimelek to protect yourself from losing out the rescue to CM

Phillip should win purple probably. A 19/17 NT band that has protection from capture and converstion CBN is pretty much the best thing in a brigade with multiple interrupts. Herod's Temple can fix discards and bam, that band is awesome.

Very tough matchup, but I had to go with Amaziah in the end. His probability of rescuing a lost soul is higher than Phil/Bart, and good odds is what I like. There is also Valley of Salt too, post SA.

This was a really tough one for me. King Amaziah is generally the more guaranteed soul (gets around Uzzah and can generate a lost soul). Furthermore, all you really need to do to beat King Jehoash is band and get initiative (or Asahel/Ishmaiah to Ahimilek). I don't see it as a waste of a battle winner because you're going to get the soul. Worth it. On the other hand, Philip grabs Bart for speed and then walks through the meta (with the exception of Uzzah), and can use HT to get away from CM.
I went with King Amaziah.

Then I read the thread and switched to Philip.

Philip/Bart can rescue 5+ LS's by themselves in a T2 matchup. All that you need for that to happen is a first turn Philip, and for your opponent to be playing a standard Assyriagicians (or Magissyrians, depending on preference of which group is more prevalent) T2 defense. If this were a T1 only poll, I'd go with Amaziah. But IMO, the better hero in the better category is the better Hero.

Go Philip.
