Balaam's good, but Survivor can generate souls, has protection from Grapes/AotL, and initiative.

I agree, though this is actually difficult because off the combos and meanness you can pull off with Balaam.  However, you're right that Survivor just has too much going for it.  Soul Gen, discard protection, and great initiative?  DoU = instablock plus a soul to rescue.  It's too much.
