Centurion's junk compared to Jephthah. Jephthah's still good past T1.

Centurion isn't junk. He has access to the NT only and stops chump blockers. Both lack initiative, but more interrupts work on Centurion.

Killing 2 ECs in your opponent's territory before they can even block is better than just negating them.

Discarding your own top card can be great if you set it up to be a LS.

Jephthah is one of the few Red heroes who is actually any good outside of a mono-red offense.

I like Jephthah for this one.

Jephthah makes TGT better. Therefore, Jephthah is better.

The best anagram of Centurion at Calvary is "Run to a vinyl race cat." Jephthah has no decent anagrams. Therefore, Centurion at Calvary is far better.

Jepthah can be used in a variety of decks. Centurian really is only going to make it into Mono red. Jepthah is far more useful.

If anyone plays an actual defense, then they'll use a Protect Fort/Site. If a person plays with your typical speed/standalones defense deck, they'll keep their EC's in hand. He is easily negated by a KoT from hand, and doesn't stop Uzzah.

Centurion at Calvary can be banded in by Abishai (thus finishing off a banding Chain that negates ECs and evil weapons). He can rescue the NT only LS, and can be protected by Herod's Temple. Finally, he can use Foreign Sword, which can allow him to negate Unholy Writ.

Centurion wins.

The problem is that nobody plays an actual defense, and since Centurion is only going to be in a Mono Red deck, no deck with Centurion is going to win against a good player.

I remember someone at Nats last year using red with TGT and doing alright...

Calvary doesn't need backup to win battles (especially if banded in). You have to have backup with Jep. I have found Jep pretty useless for the most part; he's not WC, his ability is only good once (and can be risky), and it's negate-able.
If you were to go on a trip... where would you like to go?

Jepthah can discard an entire defense on his own. If Calvary is blocked by somebody with 8 toughness, he's pretty much done for. Banding is the main thing though.

If we're strictly speaking T1, no one lays down EC's, so that point is moot. The 'blocked by somebody with 8 toughness' is a wash, since the same holds true for Jep.

If Jephthah can discard an entire defense on his own, that means that the entire defense is a selection of Uzzah, Gomer, KoT, TAS, and Sabbath Breaker. All of those are useless vs. Centurion except Gomer and KoT if Centurion has no backup, and Herod's Temple makes even Plot NBD vs. Centurion.

Uh huh, and on the other hand, is Centurion really good in anything but a mono red deck or maybe - maybe - TGT? You can pretty much splash Jeph into anything.

He could easily be splashed into a W/C FBTN deck that uses a red focus (and most of the good ones do).

Because you see Jep splashed in soooo many decks nowadays, eh? I think the bottomline is Centurion can make successful rescues by himself all day every day in todays meta, while Jep is at the very best just a support Hero that dies easily.
