You do realize TGW has just as much drawing and inish as Jair, right? Furthermore, TGW is more easily splashable and can do serious damage to an opponent. Last year I got her first turn, and the other guy feared an FTM (even though he went first), so he got down to three cards. Oops. It was delicious. Plus, with Gifts, TGW gets just as much drawing as Oak, and Gifts is a good artifact pretty much any time.

But you don't have to discard two cards from for Jair to work. Plus, he works with Judges Seat.

I'm not sure that the use of Judges Seat is really a good argument here. Neither hero is really all that splashable, as they both fit into Gold brigade decks and that's about it. I chose Widow over Jair because Widow requires more strategy to use, and at the end game, she's absolutely devastating.

While I think Abom decks have reached a point where they're viable again (at least more viable than they were last season), that's not the best argument in the world either. Jair fits into better decks, I think, but Widow has more utility, requires more skill, and is, ultimately, much more fun to use.

I'm not disputing Jairs utility vs Widows. I myself even voted for Widow in that regard. I'm only pointing out Widow is, in fact, splashed into decks outside of mono-gold.

Either way, I'm not really a fan of either card, as they're both sorely outmatched by other cards in the same brigade.

Both are D2 and have great initiative.

Widow +:
Discards 2 cards from opponent's hand
(makes opponent D2)
Has more CBN battle-winning enhancements
Works with Herod's Temple
Works with Abom
Works with certain combos for devastating results
Is CBN

Widow -:
Discards 2 cards from own hand
(makes opponent D2)
Can't reasonably attack if RBD is up

Jair +:
Oak can exchange into him
Works well with Judge's Seat
Can gain CBN battle-winners through Angel with a Secret Name (mutually exclusive with advantage 1)
Is CBI

They're pretty evenly matched in my book, but Widow's broader strategic application, CBN battle-winner and ability to instead Discard puts her in the lead. Widow is higher risk, much higher reward.

Abom is even less viable than it was last year.  There's too many cards that can target it.

...and when was the last time you saw anybody use one of them? (Other than King Hezzy, but even he is pretty uncommon, and it's not hard to kill him in territory.)

Isaiah offenses, Abe's Kid, and Passover Hymn are, realistically, the only cards that are played that will target Abom, and Cov w/ Death clears all that right up.

And that's why TGW exists. If they're going to hold onto it forever, the discard is even more devastating, and they'll find themselves in a tough place.
