Wool Fleece (Pa)

Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: No Evil Characters may band • Play As: Evil Characters are prevented from banding. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Judges 6:36-38 • Availability: Patriarchs booster packs (Rare)

I have been wondering this for a while and now I have to ask this publicly: Why does no one use this card? I have never seen this card in any deck, yet it seems to me like it could be very effective against a lot of defenses. I mean, it could almost completely shut down a Sadducees or Pharisees defense, and it could put a damper on Demons, Persians, Heretics, and any sort of defense that uses Archers and Horses. Am I overlooking something? Was this card ever any more popular in the past?

A player in my group uses it in almost every deck he makes.  He says it makes AotL an almost automatic battlewinner.  I guess there's something to be said for that...
Gates of Hell is by far the best card in the game.  No questions asked.

Too often I find it's not worth the slot.  There aren't many defenses that rely exclusively on banding.

There is also a card that stops evil characters that band from banding while they remain in play.  That with this artifact would be a nasty combo.

Nobody uses this card because the most popular banders, Salome, Gomer, and WS are CBN and therefore completely unaffected by Wool Fleece.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Actually since Wool Fleece targets characters (instead of special abilities), it should be ruled as a "Protect" special ability.  Therefore, it would still stop all the CBN banders.

I still doubt this card will see too much play, but this might help it at least a little :)

Has that rule been fully implemented now? If so, Wool Fleece may indeed see more play very soon.

Yep, it's been announced here, and I'm basing my rulings in tournaments on it.

Excellent. Also, as a by-product it will not stop The Darkness or any sort of site guardians from banding in.

I agree with Prof U that Wool Fleece should probably be a protect instead of a prevent.

Although we've defined prevent, protect and restrict we have not officially gone through every card and made changes to them yet.  Wool Fleece is listed as a prevent and has always been played that way.  I doubt we're going to change that in the midst of the State/Regional/National tournament season.
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

I remember in the past, Wool Fleece was used in choose the blocker decks to prevent your opponent from banding in their EC and wreaking havoc. Since the popular CBN EC banding, I've hardly seen it, like Pol said. Would be cool if it was a protect, although the "prevent" wording on it makes it confusing for newer or forgetful players (like me  :-\).
