I should also note that there are many cards in recent sets that ENCOURAGE play with multiple brigades.  So both the risk and the reward were increased.  The main reason that splash was hit so hard was because people were pwning with splash characters (esp. on defense), and people needed a way to combat that.  But at the same time, there's now more fun stuff to do with splash as well  :)

all the new multicolored demons such as winged lion, the new bear ROCKS,  the Terrifying beast and the winged leopard  (a greek and A-Bom ooooh gives me chills)

The romans with rome encourage splash defenses especially with all their multicolored enhancements

The amalekites slave neatly bonds brown and evil gold.

Just a hireling and doctrine like leavan help bond the saducee and pharisee defense

just to name a few...

I don't see a huge potential for use with the new multi-coloured demons; is that just me?

I have not seen an Orange/Crimson Deck (Lion), an Orange/Brown Deck (Bear), or an Orange/Grey Deck (Beast).  I have only seen those cards added to Babylonian Decks, Persian Decks, or a fully Orange deck.  But those cards WOULD do better in multi-player I guess against Garden Tomb, because each extra color makes it more likely that there are two or more EC of a certain brigade in play.  I will concede that the Emperors reference has validation, as it is truly splash (multi-color).  I have never ever seen Amalakite's slave actually stay around to block.  I suppose there are Pharisee + Sadducee decks out there (though I just use the latter), so Just a Hireling would work for those decks.

I guess I personally just don't consider two-color to be "splash" anyway (as opposed to rainbow), but something is better than nothing :)

Are there cards that can discard or negate frotresses?

I myself am not a big fan of the Judges seat. It seems like a pretty powerful card. Is there any way around it if your opponant has it in play against me?
You have to be smarter than it.

There are - Battering Ram, Siegeworks, Besieged, Spreading Mildew, Set Fire, Romans Destroy Jerusalem, King Hazael, Assyria Conquers Israel.

You can also use smaller evil characters (I think Eli is the smallest judge at 4/4, so they'd have to decrease him to kill off all of your ECs) or choose a different EC to discard from the same brigade.  Judge's Seat doesn't protect, so you could discard/capture/etc. the Judge there as well.

You can also use EC's that are protected from Discard in territoy in combination with a protection fortress of your own.  High Priest Palace, Headquarters at Riblah, House of Rimmon, Assyrian Camp, Pharaoh's Throne Room all protect your EC's in Territory from being discarded by Judges Seat.

Also, The Curse Besieged can be used to d/c an OT fortress.

Not to mention the Hero is just sitting there, in the Fort, in your territory, so you can always just pick him off with a card that targets in play/territory.

:edit: yeah, what Aggie said.
