Title: Underused?
Post by: Nameless on February 09, 2012, 05:31:14 PM
What brigade do you think is the least used this year?

Teal. I still don't know anyone who plays it outside of booster.

I have a Teal/Green deck right now, actually. Dunno if it's competitive, but I have it, lol.

I'd still have to agree, though. Teal is used, but not very much.

I agree with Teal: I see it splashed but I haven't seen a mono Teal Deck

Mono?  Silver.
Overall?  Teal.  Green/Teal's still out there, but you don't see it much.  It seems everyone has a deck, but no one uses it.

Mono Teal won't be very popular, but Green/Teal and Teal as a splash will be used a decent bit, IMO.

Teal is my favorite brigade still. Yet I've never run a straight Teal deck. I use it to splash in with literally every brigade if I have deck space.

You mean people play teal in booster?

If they have the Zeke tin, and happen to get some really good pulls out of priests.... other than that though, not really.

Westy is a huge fan of using teal in booster. Even if you don't draft with tins.

Teal's got a 10/9 that draws.  Who wouldn't use that in booster?

well I suppose this all depends on what definition of "use" that we are using.  If we are saying using a couple of teal cards with good utility, that's differently than saying using as in really using it as a main part of the deck.  I don't think its too common to see more than a couple of utility teal cards in a deck.

Teal is so good this year. If a turtle deck doesn't win nationals, one with teal will. Obviously, it needs to be splashed with something, but its fantastic with Samuel.

The question is, how do you define "used"? Sure, Angel Under the Oak and Cherubim see a lot of play, but there's usually only a Wheel within a Wheel to back them up. Are they truly used? Not really. Sure, Samuel is gold, and you'll probably throw in a Samuel's Edict, Gideon, and Moses, (and maybe another enhancement), but how much gold are you really using? Not much. So when you say least used, if you mean the brigade that appears in the fewest decks, it might be teal, but it might even be blue. The only decks that will use blue are genesis, whereas every other brigade can fit within multiple themes. An Aaron or Abiathar is a great splash in a Samuel deck. So in the big picture, Blue plays a far bigger role than teal, though teal may actually appear in more decks. That said, teal is vastly underappreciated. You can also substitute silver for teal in this example, and it'll probably better get across the point, but teal can be more extensively splashed than silver's 3 cards.

Obviously one with teal will win... All the feasts are teal and they are so speedtastic.

If you are referring to teal heroes being in the deck that wins nationals, I'm going to disagree with you there.  I personally believe GardenDisciples will win Nats, and the only teal in that deck is the feasts.  I agree with you though, teal can be effectively splashed into many things.

Sam's the new TGT.  Everyone's using it, but the real question is what are you using with it.

The only feasts would be Pentecost and First Fruits (I guess if you're already using Gifts, Triumpets). You're also going to need heroes. Aaron, Phineas, Abiathar. With them, you might as well throw in Zadok Anoints Solomon and Zeal, and maybe an Eli's Sound Advice. Which is a substantial amount of Teal.

Not always. Gardensciples doesn't need Teal to use both Pentecost and First Fruits, and many Sam decks use enough Purple to not need Teal for Pentecost.

Gray won't see very much play in T1, at least. Phars are still good, but they won't have the same popularity as they did last year.

Sabbath Breaker?
I assumed everyone's first guess would be Saul/Paul, considering all those turtle decks and whatnot. ;)
