Evidently the PTB have discussed it and decided that you cannot add an EC to an Opponents side of the battle, only to your side of the battle

Regardless of the ruling, Gates of @#!*% will still work exactly as written, it's just that a rule might be enacted to restrict how it can be used. Even though a converted Gomer still says on the card that she can band with any male EC, a game rule restricts her from doing so.
To use Gates of @#!*% to produce more ECs to band to is both legal and clever.As long as GoH is used before Gomer is used to block, she can band to any male ECs in territory at the moment she enters battle. After she has entered battle, you cannot go back and use the ability later.
Yeah, I thinbk the contention here is whether they can d/c Gates to add an EC to a battle they are not personally involved in.
He used The gates of hell and kept discarding the bottom card of his deck , so then I could band to his Evil Charactars.
