Those two work very well together. I can assure you that it wasn't originally intentional. King Ahaziah was designed with that ability (due to his idol worship) before Shrine ever saw print. We were aware of it during testing. We have a couple people on our testing team that love Shrine. Maybe a little too much.

I recently found that the current REG list of cards that depict an idol has less than half of the cards listed that fit that definition! I've proposed several additions to the list (some of which are actually useful). Once it's approved we will share it. We won't make players wait for the new REG since they are legal choices already.

No preview today. The magicians got pushed off to next week. You can expect 4 new mini-theme previews next week!

My Take

Wizards--- At first I was like woah and then I was like $:-\$ , most times your trading a lost soul for an evil enhancement and that's not counting all the times his ability will be negated.
The Judean Mediums- He's pretty good because often times I see magician defenses "stuck" with no link between SoT and Messenger
Philietus-- Okay I guess lower numbers make him worth a slot though its kinda soon for a reprint I think
Hymenaus--- I think its a good set up card to get your better heretics out
Hermogenes--- Pretty good a 5th Creeping Deceiver if you ask me who is not necessarily better or worse.
Phygellus--Phygellus is pretty good, he's not going to last long but thats okay

This is it exactly. His misprinted numbers were 11/4, meaning he'd almost never have initiative, whereas his new number (5/6) are more in line with the majority of the heretic theme, who normally win battles through protection instead of overwhelming the heroes.

Alright seems like the only N.T. defense brigade I need a decent theme for is brown now. All the others are covered especially Black and Gray who each have 2 N.T themes

Wicked Thief, Governor Felix, Mocking Soldier, Angry Mob to name a few...obviously abilities aren't very strong with those ECs, but the ability to utilize Herod's Temple and take advantage of brown's strong evil enhancements that aren't restricted to a theme (Gib Trick, Dungeon, Plot, Wickedness Abounds) and I think you could make a playable Brown (mostly) NT defense.

I like the idea of the reprint of philetus. If you do not have a lot of enhancements and new testement souls well if you protect the souls and even if you die because of numbers after protecting the souls then they have no special initiative and they are left in battle without a soul to rescue. I wonder how good a "soul protecting and discarding" deck would work

Sounds to me like we need an evil windows of narrow light or something. But still at the end of the day there's no nt theme for brown, unlike every other evil brigade. Not really a big deal but any N.T evil Israelite's could be brown it could be a brigade like demons that spans ot and nt.

There's also no NT theme for Blue.

I wouldn't say these will never happen, but we'll see what comes up in future sets.
