Let's say I have a deck where I want to do exactly what Assyrian Siege Army was designed to avoid, and that is splash him in a deck with no PG enhancements, and only one other Assyrian. I was wondering what your thoughts on the best Assyrian to include would be. I'm about 99% convinced the answer is Assyrian Archer (who can band to him, and, results in the best play possible with ASA when both are in your hand--not to mention Archer can shoot someone if need be), but the other 1% thinks that Assyrian Survivor might be a better choice. The deck is not particularly concerned with LS generation, as it does have two other LS generators in it, and doesn't necessarily have a need for speed.
So, what are your thoughts? Am I right to go with Archer, or is there something I'm not thinking of that might make me want to use Survivor?

I'd say survivor. You're probably not going to really want to band if they are all the pale green you have, so generating a ls if need be (there's always a chance you can't draw your generation) is a better ability, imo.
-
I say Archer. You can do it from hand in a surprise attack, kill a Hero, protect from an AotL win if all they have is that and a Hero with less than 5 offense, and have a Grapes block to get a 12/12 back for future use.
All Soul Survivor has is soul generation, but perhaps there could be a helpful psychological factor. I've seen people CM their own Hero when he blocks to stop the Confusion.
-
Bah, Real Men play Mayhem, then get Confusion + Dou'ed anyway....
-
King Tig has some value. Block with him and use CM, Writ, etc and you get to capture an O.T. Hero.
Depending on the rest of your defense The Tartan can be good also. I've seen him used to block simply to negate protection so that Writ or Charms can be used.
If you want to do self capture with Raider's Camp then King Asnappar and The Tartan are both valuable.
There's also a chance that Pagan Priest might fit well into certain defenses that use HHI or Ashera Pole.
-
If it's a defense-lite deck with a few silly little autoblocks, I'd say Survivor. If it's a serious multi-block defense, then I'd go with Archer.
But really, why not both? Add Confusion and DoU, too.
-
How committed are you to the splash only being 2 cards? Confusion would be a great pull off of Survivor. Overall, I'd say Survivor, but Archer wouldn't be a bad second.

Very. The deck is already 63, and the rest of the defense is pretty well locked in. I don't think I will be changing that.

All good points. I think Archer is still the best option because of the surprise attack, but I might try a few games with one or a few of those options. Probably not the self-capture guys, as I don't think that would fit well in my deck, but I could definitely see Tiggy being useful, and maybe PP, as HHI is kind of a staple in the deck.
