This is my first attempt to redesign the Redemption logo.
The current one is iconic and long-lasting for a reason, but there are several problems with it.
First, there is no one logo treatment for it. Every new Redemption product seems to use a different variation of the logo and there's not even a high resolution version used anywhere online.
Secondly, the combination of red and various shades of yellow-ish green is garish and ugly. The new logo would be entirely red-centric, allowing a single focal point (notice how the green R is almost invisible in front of the red tile).
What's the most important part of the Redemption brand? 2 things were clear to me: the color Red (the border on the back of the card as well as the tile behind the R), and the image of the flaming sword. So, I've combined them. I think this new logo works well as a modern representation of the game, a way to attract new players, and it would be highly useful for web and mobile purposes.
I call the logo "the flaming sword."

btw for anybody that ever wanted to know some time ago I found the closest match to the text in the current Redemption logo. (if not the source of the stylized text)

Card games can never change their logo because you can't retroactively reprint card backs.

Some other TCGs have different language cards that have different backs and are still legal for tournament play as long as sleeves with totally opaque backs are used. (which are the only type of sleeve allowed in many other TCG tournament settings)

This would only affect casual play. Tournament decks are required to be sleeved, so the backs are not seen anyway.

The other minor part that I still think makes it iconic is the fact that the R is capital while the rest is lower-case. I personally like that better. Could you do a mock up with that, for comparison sake?

I don't think Redemption should change the card back. This logo would be for promotional purposes.

Given the currently expressed favor of the status quo I've seen in certain recent threads I doubt we are having something so drastic as different card backs any time soon. ::)

Also I happened to make an SVG of the current logo from a scan of the original logo. 8)
(yes the lines are not perfectly straight....)

Quick mockup to show the logo on an expansion box.

I'm really curious what that would look like with the old font.

That looks pretty amazing....

I do really like the modern feel of that logo.

Thank you tripleplayNa1.

Is there a reason that the sword is not behind the R in the solo logo, like it is in the longer logo? It almost looks like the sword was supposed to form a second letter. I think it may look better behind the R.

I would guess that's the "icon" variation of the logo, so it's meant to be as compact as possible.
If the sword was behind the R it would increase the size quite a bit to make it visible with the R in front.

I decide to remake the original logo as an svg for fun.

@Daniel sry if I'm hijacking your thread >.< , was not my intent.

Interesting, did anyone else see the sword as a second letter?

No worries! It’s nice to finally see the redemption logo up close.

I'm not sure why there aren't any high-res images of the original logo around for promotional stuff... maybe there is one we just don't have access to it :P
original: (from reserve printout sheets, was the largest and cleanest I could find)

btw there's also an optical illusion there :P the bottom logo looks like it's shifted to the right doesn't it ;)

But notice how that logo is different than the one on the 10th anniversary and 4th edition starter decks. It’s like the logo gets remade every expansion release.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing on the 10th anniversary tin.

As someone that really gets annoyed by minor differences in things like this it is like a breath of fresh air to see a modern consistent logo :P

That would be something to ask Rob about.
I dig your redesign man. As long as the cardbacks don't change I think a redesign of the logo is appropriate.

Thanks Isildur!

I agree. I am not sure *why* Daniel wants to change the cardbacks.

Daniel already said he didn't want to change the cardbacks only promotional logos.

Let me ask this, is there anyone who dislikes my logo or the idea of changing the logo but is refraining from commenting out of politeness? I want all feedback, positive and negative.
-
I don't dislike it, but I think I would like it more if the flames were closer in style to the sword on the card backs--that "trailing" flames look as opposed to flames shooting off the side.
However, in general I tend to be someone who likes very gradual change so it would probably hard to sell me 100% on any logo change. ;)
-
The logo looks good. What are your thoughts on "sheathing" the cross on the side of the display box by designing a light sheathe around it? So the sword is out on the logo then in sheathed form it looks like a cross.

I'm not crazy about changing the cardbacks. But that's just me.

He said he didn't intend for it to replace card-backs, just promotional material...

Thanks! That's a great idea, let me see if I can make it look right.

Yeah, I was a little lazy with the flames. V2 coming up soon.
