A recent one I can remember was in a T2 game. My opponent had Unholy Writ active so I banded Simeon to Captain of the Host and then chose the blocker as Captain had been set aside with Provisions. When my opponent asked what Lost Soul I was going after (since it's Rescuer's Choice in T2), I took a quick glance at his LoB and said "NT Only." You can probably guess what happened next... 

When playing my Gates of Hell deck at nationals 2010 I looked at James Roepke's hand on a very early turn and saw he had Golden Calf - which would stop my hero abilities I needed to use to win. I had 3 copies of Captured Ark and just needed to wait for one copy before discarding my whole deck and then winning. Instead, I promptly forgot what I saw and discarded my whole deck and lost due to Golden Calf. It was his only copy and he drew on turn 1.

He got 2nd instead of me (I took 3rd).

At MO states 2012, I attacked with a red hero with the game tied 4-4. My opponent blocked with KoT. I had bravery of David in my hand, but I didn't notice David was in play, so my hero died, and I lost next turn. 

I've told this story before, but It's still pretty classic:

Second to last round of Sealed Deck, 2011 Nationals. The last two undefeateds were myself and Rebekah Collins. As G/H Sealed Deck tournaments usually went, both of us were using G-Decks. The game was pretty back and forth for awhile, and toward the end, I was up 4-3, and was experiencing a 3 turn LS drought. However, I thought I had the game in the bag: I had captured (and let her redeem) her Moses, she had already used her AotL and Plague of Frogs, and my Red Dragon was alive and kicking. There was one card in the game that could allow her to win: MY Plague of Frogs. I certainly didn't need it, I still had my Moses and plenty of numbers for him, I just needed an LS to rescue. But for whatever reason, I didn't have the foresight to discard it. She attacks for her 4th LS with Women of Israel and Miriam. At this point I realized my error. What I didn't realize that with one free LS to give, I was certainly under no obligation to block, and I could keep Red around to block next time after Plague is gone. I guess I was just hoping that she would either make the wrong move, or that if she did make the right move, I would draw Red back once he was shuffled (there were 4 cards in my deck at the time--Red would make 5). So I blocked, she played Taking Egypt's Wealth (as she should have) and hesitates for awhile looking through all of the options. Then she says "Oh!" and in my head I go, "oh." Red gets shuffled by my Plague, and is now 1 in 5 cards in my deck. My turn, I draw 3: No Red, No LS, No Jethro, Nothing. She walks in for her 5th, on her way to a Sealed Deck championship. I won the next round to go 5-1 and finish 2nd. Regardless of who won the previous game, I would have played the same person (Tyler S) and I completely outdrew him in our G vs. G matchup. So it's pretty obvious that a card that was completely under my control until the very last second cost me a Sealed Deck Championship.

I was in discard phase and my opponent had Guardian up. I, being cute, threw down falling away like it would work and then laughed and put it in my discard pile. I was informed by my opponent that I had to return one of my own redeemed souls to my land of bondage. I felt like such an 'Alstead'. 

I'm not sure what an Alstead is, but the almost identical spelling to my last name is an indication that it probably means: "Someone who is not quite up to par with an Alstad, but wishes he was."

And then your little brother proceeded to beat you...

Just yesterday I was playing my sister and she chose me to go first so I did and I had Nazzy and WWW in my hand so I decided not to put down Nazzy yet so I could search with WWW once I drew a green or silver hero. Then, of course as soon as I draw next turn she plays Mayhem and I get terrible cards. All of them except NJ were ones that I needed to put down to either attack or get ready to block so I ended up with only NJ in my hand and next turn she puts the hand discard lost soul in a site so I have to d/c NJ from my hand. Luckily for me I was still able to pull of the win all thanks to Benaiah who rescued, I think, all four of the souls that I needed with SoG.

used jeptha's ability to discard no one due to protection and top decked my NJ lol

I did the same thing at MN State, only it was a lost soul instead of NJ.

Are we only limited to one dumb play for this thread? It would take me a while to narrow down which was my dumbest move.

My two biggest ones that come to mind were:

1 - Playing SoG/NJ immediately after drawing them to win a T1-mp championship game at the 2010? MW Regional tournament only to realize after they'd hit the table that there was only 1 LS out at the time that they could actually take (this was before the new SoG).

2 - Playing Mayhem while my opponent's RBD was active in a T1-mp game at about 3 in the morning at the 2012 EC Regional tournament.

This is not by any means my dumbest mistake, I've probably long since blocked out my dumbest moves. However one that happened during the last Nationals in Minnesota during the teams games.

I had Grapes of Wrath in my hand but no evil characters. Neither me nor my teammate had a different block. I'm sure it was some kind of Captain of the Host style attack (possibly a band, but I don't remember). So I told my teammate, I could win us the block if he put any evil character in battle.

It turns out, I should have made an exception for Wandering Spirit.

My teammate made another mistake which in combination with the above fail to block, caused us to lose that game.

I been known to play Mayhem with RBD at Nationals... a couple times.

Are we only limited to one dumb play for this thread? It would take me a while to narrow down which was my dumbest move.

Nah. Just do as many as you want.

If this counts, at EC regionals, I had Jair sitting in the Judge's seat and I only remembered to use it once!   

While playing a T2 2P game at SW Regionals with a prophets deck, I set aside three different characters with Provisions while Rain Becomes Dust was active, which discarded my Angel of the Lord.

You know you don't have to draw off provisions right?
