Have you ever made that one play in a Redemption game that was so bad, it scarred you for life because of how dumb it was?
In Southeast Regionals 2008, after T1 two-player was over, out of pure boredom, I entered T1 multiplayer. I was warned that it was boring but I didn't listen.
For the most part it was. However, in the second game I found myself in an interesting situation. I was blocking with Fallen Warrior, and I had currently had an occupied Ashdod site in play. So I played Joseph's Brothers' Scheme. I brought in another player's Faithful Servant promo. The side-battle started. I played the only enhancement in my hand: "Sword of Punishment." It's effect triggered (which it can discard an evil character with */2 or less) and the effect would only work on my Fallen Warrior. The card was discarded, and I lost the block. So overall, I killed my own character on accident. :P

A recent one I can remember was in a T2 game. My opponent had Unholy Writ active so I banded Simeon to Captain of the Host and then chose the blocker as Captain had been set aside with Provisions. When my opponent asked what Lost Soul I was going after (since it's Rescuer's Choice in T2), I took a quick glance at his LoB and said "NT Only." You can probably guess what happened next...
-
I buried my opponent's lost soul at NC Regionals in like 2009, which caused what should have been a 5-0 win to become a 5-4 loss. That was my only loss in the tournament. I got second place.

When playing my Gates of Hell deck at nationals 2010 I looked at James Roepke's hand on a very early turn and saw he had Golden Calf - which would stop my hero abilities I needed to use to win. I had 3 copies of Captured Ark and just needed to wait for one copy before discarding my whole deck and then winning. Instead, I promptly forgot what I saw and discarded my whole deck and lost due to Golden Calf. It was his only copy and he drew on turn 1.
He got 2nd instead of me (I took 3rd).

Maryland States this year. My first hand has Nazareth, Woman at the Well and AotL. Neither of us has souls out. I figure I'll pull out a soul and AotL whatever he blocks with. I go first, play down Nazareth immediately, push Woman at the Well into battle start to go to search his deck when it hits me what I've done. In the end the game came down to who drew souls first. Cost me the tournament.

At MO states 2012, I attacked with a red hero with the game tied 4-4. My opponent blocked with KoT. I had bravery of David in my hand, but I didn't notice David was in play, so my hero died, and I lost next turn.

I was in discard phase and my opponent had Guardian up. I, being cute, threw down falling away like it would work and then laughed and put it in my discard pile. I was informed by my opponent that I had to return one of my own redeemed souls to my land of bondage. I felt like such an 'Alstead'. :o

I've told this story before, but It's still pretty classic:
Second to last round of Sealed Deck, 2011 Nationals. The last two undefeateds were myself and Rebekah Collins. As G/H Sealed Deck tournaments usually went, both of us were using G-Decks. The game was pretty back and forth for awhile, and toward the end, I was up 4-3, and was experiencing a 3 turn LS drought. However, I thought I had the game in the bag: I had captured (and let her redeem) her Moses, she had already used her AotL and Plague of Frogs, and my Red Dragon was alive and kicking. There was one card in the game that could allow her to win: MY Plague of Frogs. I certainly didn't need it, I still had my Moses and plenty of numbers for him, I just needed an LS to rescue. But for whatever reason, I didn't have the foresight to discard it. She attacks for her 4th LS with Women of Israel and Miriam. At this point I realized my error. What I didn't realize that with one free LS to give, I was certainly under no obligation to block, and I could keep Red around to block next time after Plague is gone. I guess I was just hoping that she would either make the wrong move, or that if she did make the right move, I would draw Red back once he was shuffled (there were 4 cards in my deck at the time--Red would make 5). So I blocked, she played Taking Egypt's Wealth (as she should have) and hesitates for awhile looking through all of the options. Then she says "Oh!" and in my head I go, "oh." Red gets shuffled by my Plague, and is now 1 in 5 cards in my deck. My turn, I draw 3: No Red, No LS, No Jethro, Nothing. She walks in for her 5th, on her way to a Sealed Deck championship. I won the next round to go 5-1 and finish 2nd. Regardless of who won the previous game, I would have played the same person (Tyler S) and I completely outdrew him in our G vs. G matchup. So it's pretty obvious that a card that was completely under my control until the very last second cost me a Sealed Deck Championship.
I was in discard phase and my opponent had Guardian up. I, being cute, threw down falling away like it would work and then laughed and put it in my discard pile. I was informed by my opponent that I had to return one of my own redeemed souls to my land of bondage. I felt like such an 'Alstead'. :o
I'm not sure what an Alstead is, but the almost identical spelling to my last name is an indication that it probably means: "Someone who is not quite up to par with an Alstad, but wishes he was."

You say potato I say potatoe. So sensitive. ;D

And then your little brother proceeded to beat you... :P
Just yesterday I was playing my sister and she chose me to go first so I did and I had Nazzy and WWW in my hand so I decided not to put down Nazzy yet so I could search with WWW once I drew a green or silver hero. Then, of course as soon as I draw next turn she plays Mayhem and I get terrible cards. All of them except NJ were ones that I needed to put down to either attack or get ready to block so I ended up with only NJ in my hand and next turn she puts the hand discard lost soul in a site so I have to d/c NJ from my hand. Luckily for me I was still able to pull of the win all thanks to Benaiah who rescued, I think, all four of the souls that I needed with SoG.
-
used jeptha's ability to discard no one due to protection and top decked my NJ lol

I did the same thing at MN State, only it was a lost soul instead of NJ.
-
At Boston Nats, after looking at an opponent's deck and realizing he has SoG + NJ in hand, I played Mayhem only to realize that he had RBD up the entire game. And I could've DoN'd RBD before Mayheming. :rollin:
-
Are we only limited to one dumb play for this thread? It would take me a while to narrow down which was my dumbest move.
-
At the Harrisburg Nats, I played Falling Away, only to realize that my opponent had a shiny new GoYS up. I had to use it on a LS in my own Land of Redemption.
-
My two biggest ones that come to mind were:
1 - Playing SoG/NJ immediately after drawing them to win a T1-mp championship game at the 2010? MW Regional tournament only to realize after they'd hit the table that there was only 1 LS out at the time that they could actually take (this was before the new SoG).
2 - Playing Mayhem while my opponent's RBD was active in a T1-mp game at about 3 in the morning at the 2012 EC Regional tournament.
-
Losing the T1-MP championship at EC reigionals due to not banding.
-
This is not by any means my dumbest mistake, I've probably long since blocked out my dumbest moves. However one that happened during the last Nationals in Minnesota during the teams games.
I had Grapes of Wrath in my hand but no evil characters. Neither me nor my teammate had a different block. I'm sure it was some kind of Captain of the Host style attack (possibly a band, but I don't remember). So I told my teammate, I could win us the block if he put any evil character in battle.
It turns out, I should have made an exception for Wandering Spirit.
My teammate made another mistake which in combination with the above fail to block, caused us to lose that game.

This wasn't exactly a "terrible play," but rather falls under the "terrible decision" category. A couple months ago we were getting ready for T2 MP and this crazy old guy from somewhere in Missouri was throwing his deck together at the last minute. I offered a few suggestions for making his deck better suited for MP as opposed to 2P. He ended up winning T2 MP and rubbing it in our faces for the rest of the weekend...
Lesson learned...don't try to teach old dogs new tricks, they might actually figure them out... ;)
Love you like a brother Craig!

I been known to play Mayhem with RBD at Nationals... a couple times.

Ruff Ruff!
I tell you what falls into the 'Bad Decisions' playing T-2 Multi against me and 'my Precious' !

Nah. Just do as many as you want.
If this counts, at EC regionals, I had Jair sitting in the Judge's seat and I only remembered to use it once! >:(

While playing a T2 2P game at SW Regionals with a prophets deck, I set aside three different characters with Provisions while Rain Becomes Dust was active, which discarded my Angel of the Lord.

You know you don't have to draw off provisions right?
-
Is Provisions really a may? That makes this so much worse.
-
Gates of Hell my whole deck to get of the block for the second lost soul
Putting down Nazareth in my auto deck (putting it in the first place)
Playing D Decree while having my disciples in Fishing Boat
Using Jepthah to discard SoG from the top of my deck
Using Covenant of Death, period.
The list goes on and on...

Always get a chuckle re-reading these stories...
I have one from this past weekend that wasn't exactly a "terrible" play...just one of those "Are you kidding me?" moments that tend to happen in booster draft.
It was my turn and I had 4 LS. All three of my opponents had Lost Souls out, but two of them seemed much more vulnerable in terms of defense. I had several Clay Heroes and a couple clay battle winners, but I also had Faith of Jacob. I decided I was better off getting multiple Heroes into battle right away so I used Faith of Jacob to take two of my brother's Heroes, one of which was able to start his WC banding chain and then I grabbed his Jacob (CoW) since I figured why not protect my hand for what should be the final battle.
I push the 3 Hero band into battle against the opponent I felt had used up most of his defensive options. With a resigned look, he reluctantly blocked with Spirit of Fear (Withdraw all Heroes in battle. Opponent may allow you to discard a card at random from hand instead.) No big deal I thought since I didn't actually have anything to play on the Heroes in battle. A moment later I realized the crushing truth (as did my brother)...CoW Jacob was now protecting my hand thereby not giving me the option to instead the withdraw...
As it turns out, if I had just attacked the other player I thought was vulnerable, I would have walked in for #5--instead the guy who blocked me ended up getting to 5 and I ended up in second... :'(
-
Glad you told this story because I thought that since you had the option of either withdrawing the heroes you could CHOOSE to discard a card from hand instead in spite of my hand/deck being protected.
-
Even if it was your choice to discard the card, it's still an opponent's card, which your hand should be protected from.
-

Correct. That is the one drawback of having a protected hand--cards like Spirit of Fear, The Entrapping Pharisees and Lions can defeat your Hero when your protected hand does not allow you to instead their abilities. Entrappers are especially nasty since they are CBN.
-
Another thing I wanted to confirm was this: if you chose not to reveal a good dominant or let your human be discarded don't you have SI at this point? Same situation for Spirit of Fear or any other such character ability.
-
Yes, you do have SI. Unfortunately I had nothing to play in my situation... :(
-
I watched someone the name "overplank" play mayhem at nats in multi game where an opponent had Rbd up.
-
I played Mayhem when an rbd was up at Minnesota Nats awhile ago in type 2 multi. In my defense the the rlk's rbd was in their land of redemption and there was glare from the window I swear ::) To add salt to assault, Uncle Craig was too my right and won the game :'( I need a hug right now, "overplank"! :'(

It wasnt me that messed up, but i was playing against a red deck, i had a pgilisyine defence (right after the 2011 set was released). My opponent decides tp band all of his heroes into batyle, ending with a Uriah and then an adino+spear. I blocked with fallen warrior and played a cbn wrarh. Needless to say, John was not happy. Lol

I am guilty of many misplays and most of them come down to missing something with the board state or forgetting cards in hands. Examples.
Missing the Dull soul being out and searching and drawing with AUTO and Samuel.
Missing Herod's Dungeon/writ out and rescuing with a Hero that could be captured.
Going for a NT soul vice an OT one when opponent has a Philetus (5/6 one) out and I don't have a way to respond to the protection Philetus would give.
Seeing Confusion in my opponents hand the turn before and letting them have initiative to play it while SOG is in hand.
Not playing Falling Away (Cloud) on a Jacob playing Reubens Torn clothes before blockers and just giving up the soul.
Considering these are just a few of my misplays at tournaments it's a miracle that I can win at all. Lol
