I haven't played in like two years. I have never played more than like 5 games with Clay cards. What have I missed if I wanted to win nationals?

Well the new set will be releasing prior to Nats so I'm not sure anyone can entirely predict how that will shift the meta for Nats.

Armor of God decks have been popular, various church Clay decks have been popular. Clay disciples has been a thing. I don't know as much about defenses, I think pharisees are still popular. Earley did a Greek defense last season that was crazy.

Hey welcome back.

I haven't been able to participate in the tournament season much for that same span but I have seen this game begin to diversify quite a bit over the last few years. I'll sum that up with this fact. Last years finals match in T12p was a defensive heavy Greek vs A 100% humanless Angels/Demons balanced.

You could win nats without playing a single clay card. You don't have to fine tune a playstlye to that brigade. To ease into the new stuff just play a buffed version of something you know or rock the new set.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Clay is really good.  Philemon is arguably a more abusable drawing engine than Judges, and Clay has a bunch of really solid enhancements and splashable characters.

Balanced decks are "in" right now, as it is proving tough to win battles consistently without a healthy supply of both GEs and EEs.

In my opinion, the best defenses are Gray splash (drawing + Naaman, who is a monster in this meta), Crimson splash (mostly NT, but I like to add Nebuchadnezzar), and Orange.  These 3 are head and shoulders above the rest.  Gray can also use RDJ if paired with an OT offense, and RDJ is simply amazing.

Because Clay is so popular and usually doesn't have CBN enhancements, and because AOG decks are legit with all their armor/protection, horses are absolutely awesome on defense right now.  When I play with my Gray splash defense, Naaman's Horses is more valuable than Scattered, in my opinion.
