I was soooo looking forward to hosting a weekly Christian gaming night at our church, but word just got passed down that thepowers that be (board of dir) are concerned that it would lead to interest in dark arts & demons, etc, and therefore they will not allow the youth groups to set this up. GRRR...if they'd just give me a chance to demostrate the games.....but...submitting to authority and all that....

So, now I need ideas of where else to get this going. My house is out of the question, Libraries in the area charge $30 a night. I've thought about asking the nearest card store (Animagination) but since I know the owners/mgrs/staffers are all Pagan (litterally) I'm wondering if that's a bit um dangerous (associating with the Pagans) and/or confrontational...I might jsut try it...the worst they could do is say no, right?

Anyway, are there other options I haven't considered? Where do you all play?

I am able to host game nights, mini-camps and Tournaments at my Church or my house. Most of the playgroups I know of are able to do the same. I am sorry to here that, at this time, you are unable to introduce Redemption through a game night at your church. We will be in prayer that this changes, as this is a great opportunity of game play, fun and fellowship.

Out of curiosity did the Board of Directors elaborate on why they will not allow it?

Other options include local resturaunts during off hours ( not during peak hours..that would likely cause problems) but I am sure most restauraunts woudnt mind people during the 2-4 hours or 8-10 hours. I have been at redemption tournaments hosted in restaraunts before so it is not out of the question.

Other churches might be interested. You might call around and introduce it to a local Youth Minister and see if he would be willing to help you use their facilities.

Using other card shops isn't a bad idea, I would just be sure to have some more adults there to help 'combat' any negative influences they might be exposed to.

Perhaps someone else in the church is willing to open up their house to this. Also, if the board is not willing to open their facilities beause they are afraid of something they don't know, why not help educate them. buy a few starter decks and give them too a few key board members (prefferably those with teenage children or grandchildren) point out the use of scripture and how each card helps tell a story. Help them see how this game helps children understand scripture in a method t hat is very age appropriate for them. If you can get some key board members on yoru side then you will likely have more success using their facilities at a later date.

Me and Clift played in Wal Mart.

But it depends on how many players are coming. Possible spots are restaurants, local shops, businesses, parks, and clubhouses.

yea- we played in the back of the store in the mcdonalds after they closed. You could do an all night redemption tourney- that would be strange

Well, we live in N. St. Louis county (In Missouri) I live with my parents (They need the extra help & the kids love it!) and Mom has an obsession about people being in her house.

We decided to talk to the card shop owner at the St. Louis Mills Mall, and he's going to let us play there, as soon as we pick a date. The gaming area is separate from the rest of the shop, so while we're playing, there shouldn't be any exposure issues. Hopefully this will be more of an influence on the regulars at the store.

My DH is also going to be running a "Holy Lands" rpg group there.

He did say he won't be stocking cards, so next step is to get him to allow me to sell to the gamers while we're there. I've already got a large-ish (IMHO) stock of new decks, exp. packs and loose cards, as well as 10 starter decks to play with.

So, as soon as we settle on the date, I'll be getting promo materials printed, contacting the players from last time around, and getting this party started!

As for the BoD at our church, what I was told was that they were afraid that these types of games can lead to a facination with the demonic/satanic side of things. I am planning to invite them to observe the games & to see how it actually works.

Maybe they'll come with open hearts & realize the tool we have here. Keep us in your prayers as we get this thing rolling.
