Reprint Set?

I have been thinking of this concept for a little while now, but what would you guys think of a reprint set?

My concept for the set would be this:
- 60-card set at best (mostly consisting of cards that are out of print)
- Update the wording but keep the effect, name, stats, brigade and verse the same as the version that is being reprinted.
- perhaps make it that the cards are all foil or alternate art (or both)
- The set can also be used to print the proper Errata's on the cards with a note on the set that this specific set's wording and Effect differences are the actual changes to the reprinted version of the card.

The main advantages of this idea:
- update fan-favorite cards to the modern wording and layout.
- make older cards that everyone loves more available to others.
- have the current Errata's printed on the card so it's easier to notice.
- Possibly being able to have some of your favorite cards and older promos with new art and/or Foil.

Thoughts on this idea?

What cards are you thinking about reprinting? The only sets actually out of print are Womens and Warriors both of which have already had plenty of cards reprinted or updated...

I think he is thinking more on the update portion. Example, an updated Mayhem card that reads with the updated rulings on it. Can't be used on the first turn and all that.

Regular redemption sets are already pretty reprint heavy. How about a set where there's not a single reprint?  ;D

I would like this, it would be good to have the cards have the same ability plus allow more cards to be in the new format.

A little off topic, but I prefer the smaller sets than how the last set and upcoming set have been large. I think the smaller the set the more useful cards you get

I think cards reprinted in the new format would be a cool consistency thing. The bigger sets have been harder to get certain cards, but packs are always fun to open. I would like to see some more 'tin' packs at some point. I love that it's a small set of cards put together with a theme. Simple small and you only buy the ones you want.

Namely my idea would be reprinting cards like Falling Away, Mayhem, various LS's and just some other cards people would like to see updated. Also have something that would attract people to the set (like have them all foil or alternate art or both). Most of what I'm thinking is mostly reprint some older Promos, update cards like Mayhem and mainly the older cards that people still play.

But again the main focus of this idea would have to be that the set must have something to attract people to a strict reprint set. Also, my idea for this set would be a pack like a 5-card pack with nothing else really in the pack that isn't from the set.

Personally I would like most of the Dominants reprinted in the new format, updated to current wording and possibly foil. Other cards that you can do would be Daniel (P), AoCP, Captured Ark, Lampstand, NJ, Provisions, 2-liner, etc.

Etc.? I see no link between any of those.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

There isn't a need for a link, this is a set mostly to remake older cards that people enjoy. Nothing new, just getting old cards into the new format and reminding people of older fun decks. I would think mostly have each Brigade have some card in the set (well maybe not Clay) and my concept would cut off the reprint cards at TeXP so anything Disciples or newer wouldn't really be in the set. (But that's my concept) more or less though my idea of the set would have most of the played Dominants in the set and various popular cards from the old sets as well as some promos. It wouldn't be to really push a new deck or any specific deck, but give players access to some cards that are harder to get or are out of print.

There are plenty of all cards printed in Redemption...my guest bedroom stands as proof of this. I do like the idea of updating the wording on actual cards, but not if they are only functional reprints. Changing up the look of the card (i.e. full card art or a slick new border) would be a must to distinguish these cards enough from the old ones that both would still be desirable. Obviously this comes from a re-seller's perspective.

i think the way they have done reprints while still keeping the originals relevant is cool.. captain of the host for example was great in warriors, the warriors version is still great, but there are some reasons people would play the kings version. not necessarily an entire set reprint but some cards like michael, john, and david naturally have multiple versions and i like how old cards have been getting upgrading. i have a few cards rob/david easterling upgraded and signed for me back in the day pretty cool to see how that concept has manifested into real printed versions with significant upgrades :)

I'm totally open to alternate art for basically all the cards or finding some way to make them more attractive besides updating the text so it's the most accurate. My biggest question to you though is do you think foiling out a complete set of reprints would help sell the set?

That wouldn't be changed, this idea would basically say "let's take Cap from Warriors and basically make his text to the current Redemption text and in the new card format and whatever else helps sell the set and release it as that."

My only concern with this is potentially messing up the rarity distribution of preexisting ultra rares, similar to what TExP and Disciple packs did to Patriarchs and Apostles ultra rares. Other than that, I think this could be a really cool idea and something to introduce newer players to some of the classics of the game. The real question is whether people who already have 4 of every card would buy these instead of waiting for a new set with new cards to come out.

I like the idea of giving a refresh to existing cards. Doing an entire set at once might not be feasible from a business standpoint. Using Kickstarter could help determine the viability and interest in a project like this. Or maybe we could just do 5-10 "refresh cards" per year that are included in the new set that releases each summer.

Recently Rob has experimented with a new border style that looks really cool. Maybe he could come up with a special border for these "refresh cards" to distinguish them. I don't think his current printer does foil cards and I would be reluctant to encourage those again due to the warping problems we've seen.

@Gabe, well another game I play introduces 10 TCG exclusive cards and 10 formerly OCG exclusive cards per set. So I could see it being plausible.

Yeah, Redemption foils look really bad so its probably not worth the extra money. I think part of the problem is that general the whole card was foiled and in a way like anachronism which is more of a bold/ dull foil. As for the warping all foils warp to some degree the worst I've seen is in the early Lotr sets but I think the reason texp warps so much is partly do to the quality of foil and mostly do to the quantity. Either way I am glad it was attempted, I like foils and any foil is better than none.

I am not sure foiling would be the way I would go for the reasons Gabe gave. I would be more interested in Full/Alternate Art cards. I do think doing things like that would both make some older cards more readily available for newer players while creating a stir among the more experienced players (not to mention updating the wording like has been pointed out on this thread). I would not like to have another Apostles/Patriarchs situation where all of the cards from that set get immediately devalued because of market saturation. The reality is though that Cactus will print new cards as a first priority but almost equally as important is moving old inventory. That is why the box packs have been so good for Cactus. Now to answer your question a bit more directly. What seems to sell sets is the flow of information. Since the new set this year has been spoiled more quickly and more aggressively than ever before, sales for it have gone through the roof.

The game is Yugioh. The OCG (Original Card Game) cards are those that are exclusive to the Japanese series of cards since it started there. TCG (Trading Card Game) are those use everywhere else.

I'm glad its good for cactus to move old inventory but its getting old fast and isn't fair to TLG or anyone trying to sell singles. Its a necessary evil though if it keeps Redemption going but if it could be avoided I would be for it.

I don't think his current printer does foil cards and I would be reluctant to encourage those again due to the warping problems we've seen.

I will note that while that was an issue, I personally didn't mind much. But perhaps have you tried limiting how it's foiled like have the foil be just the picture? Just my own thought there.
Anyway, back to the topic. I wouldn't mind either a kick starter for a set like this or just incorperating them into other sets. But one way to see what cards could be in the set could be just to have some polls of "what card would you want to reprinted in current wording/format" and do that and the older Dominants.

As to the other issue for ratios, My suggestion would be again actually making this set not just throwing old cards into the set so this set would have its own ratios, not the ratios of the set they came from. But I do agree, it feels that the ratios are a tad too messed up in the old product part of the new packs...

Lol. I also play Yugioh. In fact Premium Gold was what got me starting to think about this, well that and looking over my Redemption deck and just finding it funny how Gabriel (Wa) says "Shuffle Deck" and it's wording could be pretty much 1-2 lines now.
