Haman's Plot Moments *WHEN IT GETS REAL*

Reflect on when Haman's Plot has been played in a REAL moment where it is required of the card to be torn apart after being played. It is a hilarious topic, but also a very serious one to those who are ripping these cards.

The purpose of this topic is to talk about a time when you witnessed a tearing, or personally tore a Haman's Plot card to advance your game. Feel free to be as serious or satirical as necessary to get to the cut ;) Have fun!

At Nats in MN this last year, Josiah and I decided to play a fun game one night that ended up with a decent audience. I was playing a deck I was unfamiliar with, but was managing to keep it close. As the game drug on, we got to a play (I don't remember the specifics) where I immediately knew Josiah was trying to decide whether to drop Plot or not, and I informed him I'd make him tear it if he did, since it was such a close game. Bill offered to give Josiah a Plot free of charge, so Josiah dropped it, and went on to win the game.

I believe it was Columbus Nats, first round Type 2 2 player. I am playing  Tim Maly (eventual Type 2 2 player Tourney Winner that year). Tore 5 (good Ole days when you could have 5). I was the only person to time him out. I made him sign them all because I'm a sick old man.  :o  Yes I still have them.
Now that we're a family, I can be the ulll-timate DAD.

My first ever tournament was a local here in Minnesota. Using a White/Brown deck, I was undefeated going into the final round where I would face none other than The Quadrate, who was also undefeated. He was using his vaunted "Defenseless" deck and the game was very close. On his last turn (and already being at 4), he rescued with Ethiopian Treasurer and played AoC Promo to wipe out my defense. However, I had managed to save Queen Athaliah in my hand. I blocked and used Haman's Plot (my only way to win the battle) to defeat ET and a couple other strong Heroes he had out. On my turn I went on to rescue my 5th Lost Soul for the win and the tournament win. Later that season though, The Quadrate would get his revenge as we met in the championship round of the MN State tournament. He defeated me to take first (and knocking me down to 4th).

I have played Haman's Plot three times total in State/Regional Tournaments, and all three times I had Haman's Gallows active.  ;D

The only time I played it was the year I won Nationals.  The game I played it was the only game I lost which was against Joshua Hay or had an anti-my deck.  I went 9-1 but lost the game I plotted.

What made that plot tear so fun was how many people had gathered around to watch the friendly match. He also tore a plot later that night in an Ironman game with a similar crowd gathered around him.

I also remember one time when you had borrowed cards from Brad to make a deck, and tore a plot in the tournament only to realize immediately that it wasn't your plot and that you had to pay Brad for it.

My favorite Haman's Plot moment was playing at the kitchen table against my wife a few years ago. We have a house rule that if HP is used it's removed from the game for the remainder of the day but it's not ripped. Apparently I had been a little ornery... so when I played Haman's Plot she reached over, took the card out of the sleeve and ripped it in half for me! She knew I have a large quantity of them and it wouldn't be missed. Still I was speechless.

Another fun HP moment was several years ago against Nathan Voigt at a local/district in Burnsville. I used U&T to look at his hand only to find the had Haman's Plot. Between his hand and what I had on the field it appeared that if he used the plot to stop my attack and take out my defenders that he would win the following turn. I had some way to stop him in my hand, but he wasn't aware of that. I attacked with someone that would bait out his plot. He ripped it, making what was the obvious correct play given the cards on the table. The following turn he attacked as expected and I stopped his RA, then proceeded to win on my following turn.

Fun fact, I won my first 5 games in which a Haman's Plot was ripped against me. It wasn't until a T2-MP at North Central Regionals when Rubberbandwarrior (that's his old board name) ripped 3 Plots against me when other players attacked him, that I lost a game in which HP was used on me.

I ripped 3 Haman's Plots from identical decks in T1-2P at California Nationals in 2009. The 3rd and final HP was ripped against John Michaliszyn (playing FBTN) in the final round to finish the event undefeated.

At 2007 Nationals, I was playing in the final round of T2 2P against Chris M. (redemption99), and the winner would take first place. He had built a 6-1 lead against me (without using SoG/NJ) thanks in large part to his Altar of Incense stopping my Plots. I finally drew Destruction and used two Plots when he was attacking for #7. The first Plot took out his strongest Evil Characters and the second his strongest Heroes. After that I proceeded to mount a come from behind 7-6 win as he never drew SoG and never had a great attacking option after that battle.

To add in the colorful details that RDT so blatantly left out...
------------------
It was a cold February district.  This was back in the heyday of Minnesota, and so when there was a district 45 minutes away, my playgroup and I would drive up to go challenge the bigger Rochester MN playgroup, which boasted of players like Chris Bany, John Earley, Ehren Wessel, and James Roepke.

After a long day of T1-2P, we finally got to the main event--booster draft.  Booster draft was always a favorite because it leveled the playing field between the more experienced Rochester group and the Austin group.  There was around 15 players in the booster draft tournament, because lol T1-Multiplayer.  After winning the first game, I sat down to a table of fearsome players.  One, the famous John Earley, one was a friend of mine, Gabe Franta, who was around the same skill level as myself, and finally, some other random Rochester kid who was pretty good but I don't remember (I think it was Brian?).

It quickly became apparent that everybody had a lot of defense, and as I'm a more offensive player, it would be difficult to break through.  What's worse is that there were sites, and I had no access.  My friend Gabe had the feared Ananias and Sapphira defense down.  Realizing I could do nothing against him, I attack with Jepthah against him, discarding the feared husband/wife combo.

Needless to say, he wasn't happy.  He throws out his only remaining EC, Athaliah, and before even asking for initiative, he shouts "YOU'RE GOING PAY FOR THAT" rips it out of a sleeve, and shreds that card like it was Christmas wrapping paper.

The rest of us sit there stunned.  John, a bit of a catch in his throat, quietly says "You know that was a battle challenge, right?"

Gabe's eyes got wide. Soon they start to glisten. And holding back tears, he picks up his cards and walks away, not finishing the game.  I didn't see him for a week.  I'm not exactly sure how he got home.

Did I mention I don't like to color between the lines?

I've ripped one plot, against reggie Flores in northeast regionals 2008. He was going for six souls to help his differential. He had three with soggy nj in hand. I was playing a defensive lock deck. I knew I needed to plot then draw falling away and I could lock him out. I had one turn to do it. I plot, he shows me the soggy combo, and then debates aloud for a few minutes before deciding to pass because he really needed to differential.

I top decked the falling away and locked him out to win 5-4.

Can't do that in tournaments unless you have a Haman's Gallows out.

You want to play plot in a tournament, be prepared to rip.

However, the card that Gabe is talking about (that will come out next year) actually allows you to rip your opponent's card.  :o

Spoiler alert when you rip their card each half becomes playable as the same card. So go ahead rip my grapes and Ill use it twice on you in one battle and then follow it up with an infinitie ANB combo!

There's an X identifier on it. If you meet the condition with a large number you could end up losing a LOT of cards.
