Hi Everyone,

I am new to playing Redemption and I am also a new member of this message board. I recently found out about this wonderful game and think it would be a great activity for people at church, especially youth, to engage in. I am currently getting my Masters degree at Liberty University and I think playing Redemption would be helpful for people to learn more about biblical characters and key Scripture passages. It is just plain fun to play even if you already know them too! I do have a few questions...are there a significant number of adult players of this game or is it mostly younger people playing? Any advice on getting this game going at church? Also, are there any board members out there near Kalamazoo, MI or South Bend, IN. Thanks very much for your help.

Regards,

Lara

Welcome, Lara!  You'll find great support from the members on these boards in assisting you with any of your questions.  I am an adult (although some argue that fact) and used to host tournaments on a regular basis for several playgroups in the Great Northwest Region.  I stay connected to the game even while we experience a lull in our area.  As a host, I find Redemption to be a very rewarding and constructive activity for youth.  Good luck to you!

Metalpsalm (Jeff L.) lives in Elkhart, Indiana. I believe he used to host a playgroup but the numbers have dropped off in recent years. I'm sure he would love to help get another playgroup going in that area!

Also, Ron77s (Ron S.) lives in West Olive, MI. He is not on this forum much, but he may have a current playgroup going.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

I would guess that most Redemption players overall are younger, in the 8-14 range, but most of the active people in the forums are in the 20-30 range, with a few outside of that range, like STAMP. If you are able to go to tournaments, you will likely see a pretty wide range of ages.

We also have another guy like that on the forum...his name is Craig, but we usually call him "Outlier."

Speaking of Craig, here's a "recent" pic of he and I teaching the game to a youngster:

He's probably just confused over which ANB errata is the correct one. ::)

Sorry to have hijacked your thread, lmahr. We like to have a little fun here and most of the long term players have met one another at some time in their tenure with the game. Welcome to the boards!

Hey,

My name is Weston. My 'playgroup' consists of members that are all under 20. A friend taught me the game several years ago, and eventually we both brought our cards to church and taught a bunch of kids. We convinced our Awana club to buy them for our Awana store and a bunch of kids were very interested. We pretty much meet only on Sundays. Glad you found Redemption.

Weston.

I am going to like playing Redemption and being on this board. The help is much appreciated and the humor is great. The picture of the guys sitting on the porch (supposedly teaching the younger people) really made me laugh! Also, I would be interested in getting a playgroup going again in Elkhart, IN. I live close to the Michigan/Indiana border and drive right through Elkhart on my way to work. Maybe I can get good enough at playing to enter a tournament in the future. I might embarrass myself now if I tried. Thanks to everyone for helping me get started!

I learned how to play on the way to my first tournament so I don't think you will do as bad as I did. ;D

Yah, the first tournament I went to I played a 154 card deck with somewhere between 4 ad 8 brigades. I lost every single round. I bet you will do a lot better then that your first time around.

Also, a chuck Norris joke (just for good measure ;)): Ghosts sit around the campfire and tell Chuck Norris stories.
