Title: Negating things...
Post by: fyero on July 12, 2010, 12:30:37 AM
This question came up in regionals and i am not sure about it... If my opponent flips up Captured Ark and makes me shuffle an artifact can i negate it? He said i could not. Additionally, is it really true that once you choose to use a card that is discarded to do something u cannot negate it (e.g. Unknown nation, unholy writ, go into captivity, etc..

Ok, as far as I know, once it is in the pile, it can't be negated. That said, once the shuffled artifact is shuffled, Cap'd Ark CNBN. same goes with UW. Once it is in the discard, it CNBN. I'm no elder so you need other information, but this is my opinion.

You can negate CA if it's the first use. You cannot negate it after it's second use (similar to Holy Grail). So if I use Captured Ark, you can play DoN and save your Artifact from being shuffled, as long as it is not the second use of Captured Ark.

The thing to make sure is that you negate CA in the same phase as it was activated, else it's too late. Since it is most often activated in your opponent's prep phase, you just need to negate it before the battle begins.

On the Cap'd Ark, what if the artifact is already shuffled and right after it is shuffled in, you draw/play destruction. Do you get your artifact back?

As long as it's during the same phase as CA was activated, and it was the first use, then yes, you'd get the artifact back.
