I am trying to compile a list of the *Must* have commons/uncommons that are valued around .25 on ThreeLionsGaming. I would like them to either be useful in a civilization or theme, or be useful on their own. I do not have the vast knowledge of all the good cards from the middle sets because I was not actively playing at the time of Patriarchs-Kings. I will be updating this list as suggestions come in. I am mostly doing this for all the new players in my playgroup. I want to get them going on fun combo's and strategies as cheaply as possible.

Sadducees:
The 4 different sadducees, Simon the Magician, worship of milcom, annas, caiaphas, and captain of the temple guard are common. Temple Guard is a starter card, and the rest are rare, RoA, or TeP.

Pharisees:
3 Pharisees and Barrabas are common, rest are rare, RoA, or TeP.

I have composed a card analysis for each color and fortress. I will send it to you when I get back to my apartment...since we're such good friends

For Red I would personally add Jepthah. One of the best all around uncommons in the game in my opinion.

Angel's Sword, Helmet of Brass, Jehoiada's Strength, Power of the Cross, Moses Kills Egyptian, Infectious Disease and Sinning Hand are some good enhancements. A lot of the Priests, Kings, and Patriarchs commons in general were very good.

Hey,

You're going to find very few (if any) useful cards that are being sold for 25 cents. The cards that are listed at 25 cents are listed so cheep because no one wants them because they aren't any good. The occasional useful card that is priced at 25 cents is priced that low because the seller has way too many of them, and if the seller has too many of them it's likely other players do as well. Which means if you find a player in your area that gives away their extra cards they'll likely have the few 25 cent cards that interest you that they would be happy to give to you.

As far as cards being useful in themes, that's highly unlikely in Kings and earlier sets. Themes and civilizations weren't really implemented until Priests so cards printed before that that work with themes either do so by chance (like Abraham's Servant to Ur) or because a new card was designed to make a few older cards better (like The Garden Tomb). More likely the old cards that will work best with themes are the ones that help round out the brigade the theme is in.

That being said, I'd start with the women's set which are all commons. I don't know if the price has gone up since they went out of print, but you used to be able to get a set of womens cards for $20. At least 80% of the cards in that set are somewhat useful and a good number of them are very useful.

The one other card that comes to mind as a very useful common is Baalam's Disobedience.

I disagree, I think there are many useful cards that are commons. Obedience of Noah, Jael's Nail, Reach of Desperation, Burning Incense, ... etc. I am mostly interested in one's that 3 Lions lists at 25 cents because those are more accessible to my newer players. Jannes and Jambres are both 25 cent uncommon's that fit in the Egyptian and magician theme. Just because they are not rare does not make them useless.

Actually, Red Dragon is common in Warriors and is in the G/H starter.
