Meta Discussion

So, I noticed this thread was starting to turn into less of a ruling questions thread and into more of a discussion on the metagame and where the game is headed as a whole, so I thought I'd start a thread for it.

Honestly, I really love the metagame right now. I never know what to expect going into a game. Sure, TGT (in many forms), Judges, and Prophets, are often seen, but I'm finding other offenses like Royalty to be quite viable, even if a lot of people aren't trying them. As for defenses, I have no idea what to play, each has their own little niche (although currently I'm on the Fortify Site bandwagon). Sure, Foreign Wives is going in tons of decks, but she's pretty easy to counter being only two defenses give her protection and Nazareth stops Mayhem.  You can play around her if you want.

I do think set rotation would be a good idea (rotate out everything pre-G/H or pre-Kings and not a whole lot would change), and if Cactus ever had the money or got bought out, I wouldn't be opposed to a complete reboot. The card pool is becoming difficult to manage, and you have to create around certain older cards. I think Redemption is an incredible game and could compete with other popular TCGs. I don't think it'd ever match the Big 3 (YGO, MTG, Pokemon), but the gameplay certainly matches that. Redemption has definitely started heading in the right direction with the new starters, and I am behind them 100%, so don't take this the wrong way.

So what do you think about the current state of the meta and how would you change it if you could?

I'm not going to support set rotation and Rob most likely wouldn't Rotate sets. However the meta is the best it's been in years at the moment.

The only time set rotation is going to fly is when the game ceases to produce new sets. Then its up to the players to keep it alive with set rotation. As for the Meta I haven't seen a lot of TGT but I suppose now with Kidron Valley more people will use it. I also think Genesis is going to make a come back with Kidron Valley as it remedies a lot of their problems.

Except Nazareth, the only problem that mattered.

I have seen Genesis decks with Nazereth in it so it must not be that much of a problem.

There are a lot of ways to build Genesis. It depends on which path you take.

If Rob is able to print the promos we designed and tested I'm confident we will see an even greater shift in the meta. There are at least a handful of additional cards that attack overused themes the same way that Scattered and Foreign Wives do.
Have you visited the Land of Redemption today?

What's so hard right now about the meta is that the starters came out so late in the season. Honestly a lot of players stem their decks from, or copy other decks that they see online that win, or see at state and regionals. With that being said, I think the meta is larger than what it actually will be at Nationals. People will see more decks posted this last month and see or hear what won top regionals and build it, or maybe against it. As of right now the meta is diverse. Prophets, Angels, WC red, Judges, disciples, Genesis, royalty, Solomon's Temple, and those are all top mono offense, you can mix efficiently now too. I still think top decks use the small quick CBN blocks, but it's refreshing to see so many offenses. Type 2 is even more diverse due to defense. Top offense paired with top defenses don't necessarily mesh, so players have to play test quick to find out what offenses pair right with their defense.

I don't plan to play test at all.   :P

Granted, I don't plan to win either.*  ;)

*Other then with my son at Teams, at 8...wait he will turn 9 4 days prior...at 9, he will become the youngest Nats champ EVER!   :D

As for the OP:
So far, the meta sounds like a few cards in every deck and no set O or D.  That seems pretty exciting.
