Cactus Game Design Message Boards

I played in the MD Local tournament yesterday, and ended up very narrowly winning the Booster Draft category. It was very, very close, and many of us had stunningly excellent decks (Sean had C'pn along with the Angel tin, Drrek pulled a Grapes from a TexP pack, etc). However, I got lucky and managed to put together the best Booster Draft deck I've ever seen. We played with the new tins, along with a TexP pack. I got the Israelite Royalty tin, and I ended up sticking with that theme, so I had a Purple/Red offense with a Brown defense. I won't bother posting the whole deck, however, I did not end up requiring any cards outside of those three brigades, aside from a couple curses and artifacts which didn't end up having any consequence in either round we played. Notable combos and cards included:

Ananias + Saul/Paul
Esau + King Saul + Abner
Gomer x2
Unified Kingdom
Haman's Plot

And just in general, it flowed extremely well. I was fortunate enough that nobody else at my table was drafting those colors, so I ended up with a lot of great combos like that, and relatively strong cards on both offense and defense. I generally have had to resort to using a lot of strictly numbers cards, but I never really had that problem when building this deck. Additionally (and this was especially true in the first game, where the score was 5-3-3-3), luck was on my side during the games. The very first turn, someone made a rescue attempt against me, and I was able to plot down an Esau + King Saul + Abner combo, with Wickedness Abounds in my hand.

So yeah, I was (and am) just really excited because Booster has never been my strong point (other than tying for second at PA States last year), and this deck was so far above and beyond what I usually get to make. What other major Booster Draft victories have you had over the years?

I don't remember the whole deck, but I once had a booster deck with 4 Paul's Girdles in it. It frustrated a lot of my opponents that game.
 

My best was getting the red tin with Heldai and Amasia and I got Ira, Israelite archer, Benaniah and Asahael from Texp. Then I pulled a couple other guys to band to and ran off characters only and managed to pull a Holy grail out of a Tep. My defense consisted of Damsel SB and a couple of other dudes that sped up my deck. It was sweet but it didn't go down well for me, booster is about where and when LS are drawn and it didn't happen in my favor.

Yeah, you got put into a position where you had control of who would win the game. I appreciate you letting me take that win. =P

That was a pretty sick deck too. Unfortunately it was lost in the purge, but for it's time it was fantastic. I think my most recent nats deck beats it out.
