Let's discuss Gabrielle and the rule of the deck building

Need a bit more clarification on Gabrielle. This wouldn't be such a huge topic within our community at Brown City Missionary Church Camp if it weren't for the newest version of him in the 4th edition starter decks.

There's warriors, which you can go through your opponents deck and discard any enhancement in play good or evil. Then the kings booster version turns around and words it differently to say only evil enhancements can be discarded from an opponents deck.

Now here we are years later, and Cactus throws this curve ball at all of us. A new Gabrielle, with a completely different graphic, and ability. And upon further inspection, his verse is the same as the warriors version of Gabrielle, but not the same as the kings edition. Also warriors and kind Gabrielle's are both listed as just angels, where as the new one is a prophet. Says so on his card.

Yes I know the rules state if its the same title, brigade and verse and same ability modifiers then its the same card. But at the same time, these guys are clearly NOT the same in a couple of ways. The graphic, character type, and special ability.

So say I want a 56 card deck. Can both a warriors Gabrielle and the 4th edition Gabrielle coexist within the same deck? This year to keep people from being confused because kings and warriors are the same but 4th is different we put into effect as Gabrielle was a special exception. If you would like photos of what I'm talking about then please say so.

Also dear Cactus... Thanks a lot for this! Don't do this ever again.

I think Cactus has been pretty clear. The 4th edition rule book says that if 2 of these 3 items are the same then the card is considered the same for deck building purposes:

  • Card Name
  • Brigade
  • Illustration

In the case of Gabriel the art may be different but the name and brigade are the same for all four versions.

*note that the scripture reference is not one of the criteria.

I'm actually glad that Cactus made a different Gabriel, even if I can't use duplicates in my below 100 T1 deck. It gives players an option as to what kind of special ability they want to use for their respective strategy.

And to clarify, there's no Gabrielle in the Bible and thus Redemption, only Gabriel.  ;)

To clarify again... By illustration they mean the scripture verse. Which is why we put in the special rule for Gabrielle in our tournament this year. Plus it added a bit of a fun twist for the 4 experienced players to mess with each other.

Illustrations = card art.

That's cool that your play group makes special rules that make casual games more fun for you!  :)

There is also another Gabriel from the Disciples set that benefits Luke heroes.

Although Kooky's intentional misspelling of Gabriel is annoying, I have to agree that constant reprints of certain characters is also annoying. Have we exhausted all Biblical names? Could we reprint more obscure characters?

Talking of obscure characters and biblical names, what about Hakaliah (Nehemiah's father), Og (an evil King), those are two I can think of that could become cards in the future

I've been using my phone to talk on here. I only get odd times of the day to get here on the forums due to being an adult stinks. And for some reason it keeps changing Gabriel to Gabrielle... Don't ask me why -.-
