Title: Fall of Man - Back of cards, do you consider it mint/near-mint?
Post by: SiLeNcEd_MaTrIx on June 12, 2018, 03:35:28 PM
I've noticed almost every rare I pulled on the back around the border has slight looking white wear marks.  I'm assuming it's just the cut of the card and all of them are like this (all my boxes are).  Will these still be consider mint/near-mint or how would you grade them?

could you post a picture?
you've heard the old adage: "a picture is worth 1000 words."

There is unfortunately manufacturer's errors even if the card is fresh out of a pack. Depending on the damage from the factor it could be downgraded as much as MP.

It would probably be considered near mint or even lower depending on who you talk to. In other card games at least... pack fresh cards with minor defects will automatically bump down to near mint instead of mint. Rudy talks about this a lot with older MTG cards on his Alpha Investment videos.

Maybe this is something that can be fixed in the next print run.

Thankfully the Redemption secondary market has never been super picky about the difference between mint and near mint cards. I think the red card backs and white borders for sure show less wear then darker card backs with black borders.

When I get home from work I will try to post some pictures. I believe anyone who has bought the new set and looks at the backs knows what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the white portion on the bordering.  I've gotten 4 boxes and most cards have this somewhere on the back.

The machine that's doing the cutting needs to be sharpened.

Just don't sharpen that bad boy until the next set so I don't feel like I got 4 boxes of these card backs to others perfection! lol

That is what I call "Redemption Mint" meaning that it seems as though no matter what printer we use, the cards always seem to come with noticeable marks and mistakes in the printing and cutting process. Remember all the tin packs that had weird circle indentions all over the front and back card of the pack. It is just how it is.

That's what I was thinking as well.  As someone who gets kind of OCD on condition I was kind of curious what other people think so I didn't consider them mint/near-mint cards when trading with other players if we didn't agree on that.  Thanks for the reply Travis.

I'm not really a collector so while I like having cards in nice condition, stuff like that doesn't really bother me.

I've even traded/bought cards with noticeable wear because they were just for deck-building.

I am with you Matrix, but the cool thing is we pretty much all know this.  So a Second Coming or 3W still fetches full price even its Redemption Mint. Haha
