Dumb quetions from a total noob!

Hello, sorry for the dumb questions.  My wife and I are trying to learn the game together with the I and J (4th ed. starter decks) and have some questions that we haven't found answers for in the instructions:

1)  We've gone about 5 rounds each and no one has drawn a lost soul yet.... is there something we should be doing during these turns?  I mean it's pointless for a hero to enter the battle field without any lost souls to rescue, right?
2) is there a limit to how many characters you may have in your territory at any given time?
3) is there any reason I wouldn't always place a character into my territory as opposed to keeping it in my hand?
4) what does it mean to 'underdeck' something?

That's all for now!  Any answers would be much appreciated!  Thanks!

1) That sounds like some strange luck. There can be reasons to attack even if you can't get a soul, if a hero has an ability that would be useful to you it can be useful, but otherwise probably not.
2) No.
3) Cards in hand are usually harder to target than characters in play. So you can keep characters safer from various abilities by keeping them in your hand.
4) Underdeck means putting the target underneath it's owners deck.

1) Heroes can enter battle with no LS to rescue in order for their abilities to activate (this is called a battle challenge). For example, some Heroes can even use their ability to pull a Lost Soul out of the opponent's deck. If they do, then the battle challenge turns into a rescue attempt. The opponent has the option to accept or decline a battle challenge.

2) Nope--no limit.

3) Keeping characters in your hand can be strategic in that they are often more protected there (though not always) and you can avoid giving your opponent more information about what kind of deck or strategy you are using. Since characters can be placed into battle directly from hand, you may want to save a certain character to "surprise" your opponent.

4) Underdecking a card means putting on the very bottom of deck (and topdecking is putting on a card on top of the deck). Normally when a card is returned to the deck, they are shuffled in at random, but these two abilities put cards in specific spots.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Thank-you for the quick response!!  So for example, when I play "Wickedness of Delilah" and it has the ability to 'Underdeck a Hero'- I can put one of my opponents Hero's on the bottom of their deck?  Can it be the hero I am currently battling?   I am so sorry, these questions probably sound ridiculous to you!

No need to apologize. Quick clarifications are always welcome and there's almost always someone online who will be able to answer them for you. Once you get to the more complex interactions you can apologize for starting big debates.  ;)

For the record, I'm pretty sure Xonathan's "Yes" response was to the question about underdecking, not to your statement about your questions sounding ridiculous.   ;)

For #1: I don't want to offend but I want to make sure we didn't overlook an important part of starting the game: shuffling.*  If you played straight out of the box, then I think all the cards are grouped together with lost souls on bottom.  Otherwise, that is pretty amazing that both of you had "lost soul drought."

* I like to "pile" shuffle (between 6 to 8 piles) followed by a quick "overhand" shuffle to make sure the cards are thoroughly and randomly shuffled.

Ha ha yes, we DID shuffle!  It must have just been a fluke because it hasn't happened since!  Thanks!

Maybe you look for some online games using LackeyCCG with experienced players using the starters to get into the game, it's mechanics and possibilities and benefit from their experience at the same time while pestering them with questions?

Another idea might be watching some of the recorded games from LoR or other youtube channels (but this might not be as enlighting as the online playing experience will be).
