New Player Questions

I recently bought some sets for myself and as gifts.  I noticed that some of the starter decks had the text written on the picture and others were written in the box.  Also the older cards had extra card types.  Are these cards comparable with each other?  What expansions have the text in the box?

Expansion tin?  Is that the Rock of Ages?  Can you mix older and newer style cards?  If yes, is it a good idea, especially when trying to learn and teach others?

The best way to learn and/or teach is to use the two starters decks that come together and play them against each other. It sounds like you have an I/J starter deck so I would start by learning with those. Once you have a feel for the game, then start using some of the additional card types not found in those decks such as Sites and Artifacts.

Have you checked the REG?
Have you looked it up in ORCID?

Its the tin that came out with I/J that included Foreign Spearman, Foreign Wives, Solomon's Temple Priest, and some other cards that were in the new card style. I think it has XXVIII in the bottom left corner of the card

I recently bought some sets for myself and as gifts.  I noticed that some of the starter decks had the text written on the picture and others were written in the box.

From 1996 1995 until 2013 Redemption printed the special ability over the card picture. In 2013 the card face was updated. The biggest improvement was moving the special ability text to the text box below the picture. Even though the card face looks different, you can use then together in a deck. Because the newer cards are a slightly different size, it's highly recommended that you use deck protectors to make your deck uniform.

Also the older cards had extra card types.  Are these cards comparable with each other?  What expansions have the text in the box?

The most recent starter decks, I & J, are a great teaching tool for learning the game! Only the "core" card types were included to make the game easier to learn. You'll find additional card types in booster packs, tins and even previous start decks.

If you have any other questions, or if something we've said needs to be clarified, please don't hesitate to ask!
