Title: Beyond TexP: The Next Set
Post by: drb1200 on August 03, 2009, 10:44:17 AM
I think Redemption really needs I/J next year. Here are the reasons:

1. After the G/H Starter decks were released, the Priests introduced the Teal Brigade, the Orange Brigade, and the Curse card type.
2. Faith of Our Fathers introduced several themes and strategies, along with Rock of Ages.
3. TexP introduced the territory-class type.

I think after all that the G/H decks are very outdated. New players could be confused with the old brigades and limited card-types.

What do you guys think?

I agree.

In addition to your reasons, G/H is also now sold out.  E/F has been around long enough that it might be close to selling out.  So if we don't have another starter deck soon, there may not be any.

It is also about time for another rule book with some updates that have already been decided.  For instance, the person with the most LSs after the initial draw phase chooses who starts (including Hopper and any Revealed LSs).  There would also be the chance to input a few other minor rule changes that are also being considered.  For instance, the "2nd player draw 3 rule", or the optional advanced rule of playing with a minimum deck of 60 cards and playing to 6 LSs.

I'm going to vote for theme decks! Like starter decks, they would each come with the latest edition rulebook, but instead of there just being two 50 card decks that go together, there could be like 6 or 7, each with a different number of cards (50, 56, 63...) and sold individually. That could be really, really fun to play in sealed deck and it would contribute to just about every theme.

here is what i think

deck I= Teal/Silver  Pale Green/Brown

deck J= Blue/Red  Orange/Black

they should also change like outdated starter deck cards like strong demon and stuff like that

I agree, and I hope they can swing it. They have limited resources and personnel ect.
I want that and I have a couple other ideas to submit:
-A set of only unique Lost Souls and and reprinted staple dominants with new art, because that would be cool, but also to encourage players to make starter decks from their extra cards to give away to friends.
-A special limited run set that only comes out around Easter, and one that only comes out around Christmas.

Back to the matter at hand. ;D :bump: I certainly agree that new starter decks are needed but i also think they should wait for about a year and print the new decks with a few new cards as well.

I don't want to see a starter deck on its own for the next set.  I would have liked a starter deck paired with TexP or paired with another booster pack, but we have already had 3 small sets (Foof, RoA and TexP) and I don't think another small one is a good idea, especially with only some of the brigades getting help.  I do agree that we need another Starter Deck, but I don't think it should be until we get another larger set.

Theme decks could be cool, and so long as they aren't too expensive I'd be ok with that.

I love this game and will play the game until I stop enjoying it so I doubt that any decision that is made by cactus in how to release sets will stop me from playing, but I still miss normal booster packs.

I have been saying that they need to make another starter deck for a while.  Considering that most the people I teach are at that level, it's somewhat of a jump to go from e/f to ROA in one bound.  Also, it would help out here with teal/orange due to lack of good cards (my supply usually dries up after one deck).

Also CS, you can have your booster pack with one rare and I'll take my TexP pack with two shiny cards/GOYS/Burial Shroud (and yes, that did come from just one pack (also have some Emporor Nero and WOP in other packs ;D).

here is what i think

deck I= Teal/Silver  Pale Green/Brown

deck J= Blue/Red  Orange/Black

they should also change like outdated starter deck cards like strong demon and stuff like that
You honestly think that Demons are gonna get ANOTHER boost? After TeP... I doubt it.

I think starters would be good. New players need to get orange as soon as possible. :-*

we have already had 3 small sets (Foof, RoA and TexP)

Obviously I don't speak for Cactus, but I wouldn't be surprised if the next set is relatively small. The reason is the playability of the cards. I think Cactus is trying to shy away from making new cards that are not going to see a lot of use, but then making a large set (150-200 cards) would require a lot of work, time, and money. There are many cards from each of the Pre-Foof expansions that I can honestly say I've never seen played in a deck, while I think that most if not all of the FooF/RoA cards have seen some play. I also imagine that almost all of the TeP cards will see use somehow.

Not only that, but Rob has said that Tins (and I assume this applies to TeP packs) are much easier to sell and profit from for Cactus than booster packs. With the economy as it is, and many CCG's unable to survive, it is great that Redemption has so far stayed viable. So while I think it might be cool to see a large set, I am in favor of whatever Cactus needs to do so they can remain profitable.

In addition to your reasons, G/H is also now sold out.  E/F has been around long enough that it might be close to selling out.  So if we don't have another starter deck soon, there may not be any.

This is actually a major concern of mine because:

1. I love sealed deck.(ducks the tomatoes)
2. Starter Decks makes it easier to teach people how to play

Don't worry.  G/H is far from sold out.  In fact I heard that the large supply might the a reason not to produce starters this year.

As I understand the situation the 10th Anniversary Tins are close to sold out.  However, there is plenty of G/H Starter packs available.

and so, back to my idea of a new set that is only Lost Souls and staple Dominants (with new art).
Easy to sell, and it would allow players to make starters from their extra cards to give away to people who want to learn to play. THEN, cards that see little play would get played, and who knows? Maybe they would come up with awesome combos otherwise un-thought of because of it?

The past three sets have each gotten smaller.

FooF: 100
RoA: 90 + Promos
TexP: 60

I would not expect a set release of greater than 100 and another 60 card release seems more likely.
